SCOTTSVILLE, KY - SEPTEMBER 18, 2024
Former Allen County Judge-Executive, Johnny Hobdy was named the 2024 recipient of the William H Natcher award at the Barren River Area Development District 56th Annual Meeting today.
The Natcher Award was created in 1994 to honor individuals with distinguished service in government. The late Congressman Natcher was often remembered for saying, “Let's do it the right way”. During the presentation Amy Hale Chandler, Warren County Attorney and 2013 Natcher recipient, said “He’s [Hobdy] always been willing to lead by example or play the support role”. The nomination was unanimously approved by a BRADD review committee prior to the district’s annual meeting.
Among many accomplishments Hobdy served as Allen County Judge-Executive for a total of 16 years (1999-2006 and 2011-2018). He continues to be involved in his community today through his work with the Allen County Scottsville Industrial Development Authority. Hobdy, a UK alumni, has a long resume of public service including, former associate for Governor Wallace Wilkinson and former director for the Center for Courageous Kids. A few of his prior community contributions and awards include BRADD's Executive Council, The Core of Scottsville, Barren River Drug Task Force, Friend of Patriot Baseball, and 2019 Pioneer Award from the Allen County Fiscal Court. In his current role Hobdy has been instrumental in industrial expansion projects, most recently the Belmark project near the Allen/Warren County line.
Hobdy graciously accepted the award in a heartfelt and humble thank you. He recognized the supportive family and community which allowed him to do the work he's been able to accomplish. Hobdy was nominated by current Allen County Judge-Executive, Dennis Harper, who wrote, "Hobdy has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to service that is truly inspiring".
The event, which took place in Allen County, also featured a motivational keynote from the KY Department of Education Commissioner, Robbie Fletcher. Fletcher challenged our communities to go "all-in" for the children of Kentucky. BRADD also released their Fiscal Year 2024 community impact report, highlighting over 14,000 individuals served, $93 million dollars of investment brought to the region and several innovative collaborations focused on community advancement.
