Veteran news anchor named incoming
Director of Communications

FBTX ~ Following an exhaustive national search, Farmers Branch City Manager Charles Cox has named former television news anchor Jeff L. Brady as the incoming Director of Communications.

In January, Brady will replace current Communications Director Tom Bryson, who has served as the City's primary spokesman and media supervisor for the past 22 years.

"I'm honored to join the leadership team at City Hall and eager to help tell the story of such a vibrant, thriving city," said Brady. He will oversee the city's many media platforms including cable, print and digital outlets. He will also coordinate the city's outbound media relations, emergency response communications and chair the City's Internal Communications Committee.

Brady joins Farmers Branch City Hall after a distinguished career of more than 20 years in broadcasting and communications. He served as a primary anchor and reporter at WFAA-TV in Dallas and at KENS-TV in San Antonio. He launched and ran a successful content marketing agency in Irving and served on the faculty of the University of North Texas as an adjunct professor in the Department of Media Arts. He is a long-time Dallas-area resident with a wife and three children. He is also a proud graduate of Texas A&M and a former active-duty Marine who served in the Persian Gulf.

"We are delighted to have hired a communications executive with such a broad background in media," said City Manager Charles Cox. "We know he will bring a marvelous skill-set set to City Hall."

Halloween grows 'Branches' this year

FBTX ~ All Hallow's Eve has taken a new form locally this year - Halloween in the Branch, a nearly monthlong celebration featuring one virtual and two in-person events.

Halloween in the Branch will start with The Splashtacular Virtual Pumpkin Decorating Contest and continuing to events like the 80s Monster Mash Jam and the Tour of Frights. Annual events such as Haunts and Houses and Halloween in the Park have been reimagined into a new event, Tour of Frights.

Halloween begins with The Splashtacular Virtual Pumpkin Decorating Contest hosted by the Farmers Branch Aquatics Center. Visit the Margaret Young Natatorium between October 10 and 16 to pick up a pumpkin and decoration kit for children. Decorate the pumpkin and submit a photo via direct message to the Aquatics Center’s Facebook page, @farmersbranchaquatics by October 17. Voting will take place on Facebook, October 18 through 23.

The celebration continues with two back-to-back Halloween events at the end of the month. On Friday, October 30 from 7 until 10:30 p.m. the Farmers Branch Historical Park will be hosting the 80s Monster Mash Jam with the music of Prince and Bon Jovi, featuring the tribute bands, Remember Prince and Blaze of Glory: The Bon Jovi Experience. There will an 80s Rockstar Costume Contest, with the winner announced at 8:45 p.m.

On Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, from 6 until 9 p.m., the Farmers Branch Historical Park will be transformed into an avenue of thrills and chills for the Tour of Frights. Keeping social distancing and public safety in mind, this event will be taking the place of the annual Halloween in the Park event. Tour of Frights is a safe alternative to trick or treating. Drive through the Park and collect a prepackaged trick or treat bag. Event attendees may also bring canned goods to donate. Donations benefit Metrocrest Services.
