On June 24th, 2020, Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce celebrated the second edition of its Best of the Year Awards Ceremony. First held in 2018, the annual event aims to honor the person, and company that have shown outstanding performance in the political, economic, and social scenes in Brazil and the US, as well as promoted the interchange between the two nations.

In this year's edition, which was celebrated online due to government restrictions related to COVID-19, the event also honored the new category, the Entrepreneurial Company of the Year.
Décio Oddone, former Director of Agência Nacional de Petróleo (ANP) was chosen the Person of the Year of 2019. Equinor was elected the Company of the Year 2019, and Radix, a Brazilian company based in Houston, was honored as the Entrepreneurial Company of the Year. Décio Oddone received the Person of the Year Award from Clarissa Lins, President of Instituto Brasileiro de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis. Mauro Andrade, Equinor´s Vice President of Supply Chain International, received the honors from Carla Lacerda, President of ExxonMobil Brazil. Flávio Guimarães, CEO of RADIX, was honored with the Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award by Ambassador Jose Borges dos Santos Jr., Consul General of Brazil in Houston, and Honorary President of Bratecc.

At the opening of the event, Amb. Roberto Ardenghy, the Director of Institutional Relations of Petrobras, was invited to speak about the Oil & Gas market and bring an update of Petrobras’ strategy and short and long-term plans.

According to Radix’ CEO Flávio Guimarães, their team is proud to be the first recipient of the Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award. Guimarães mentioned how the mixture of the Brazilian and American cultures has been a winning ingredient for the engineering and technology company, which has been in Texas since 2013.

Mauro Andrade, Equinor´s Vice President of Supply Chain International, brought a message of optimism: “Despite all the hardship we are facing as a society, Equinor strongly believes we will have a bright future in Brazil. After 20 years, we have built a solid presence and strong workforce in that market”. Andrade also highlighted the planned renewable initiatives of the Norwegian energy company in Brazil.

Clarissa Lins, President of Instituto Brasileiro de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis mentioned how honored she was to deliver Décio Oddone the award as the Person of the Year 2019. Lins highlighted the many achievements Décio accomplished in the years while Director General of ANP: “The improvements introduced at the 16 th . Bidding Round, local content improvements, and transparency in ANP deliberations are only some of them”, she said.

Décio Oddone, in his turn, mentioned how happy he was to be the recipient of the Person of the Year award right after Carla Lacerda from ExxonMobil. Oddone highlighted that all the achievements were fruit of teamwork, and that there is much yet to be done. “It was only the beginning of the process. It must be continued and consolidated”, he said. Quoting José Ortega y Gasset, a Spanish Philosopher “I am I and my circumstance”, the former President of ANP humbly dedicated his award to his family, colleagues, and friends in the industry”.

To adjourn the ceremony, Ulisses Sperandio, President of BRATECC thanked the support of the Consulate of Brazil in Houston, all sponsors, and congratulated all the honorees: “We, at Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce appreciate the audience at our Best of the Year 2019 Virtual Awards Ceremony.
