In case you missed it, earlier this evening, the SBA announced that they have revised the reopening of the application portal of the Shuttered Venues Operators Grant program to Monday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. (EDT).

The SBA tweeted: "We heard you and we are taking action. In response to stakeholder feedback about reopening the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant application this weekend, the application portal will now reopen on Monday, April 26 at 12pm ET."

The SBA continued, "It is our top priority to deliver on the promise and commitment to provide economic lifelines to you ASAP. Yet, we understand the challenges a weekend opening would bring and to ensure the greatest number of businesses can apply for these funds, we decided to reschedule. We remain committed to delivering economic aid to you quickly and efficiently."

In the meantime, the SBA advises "In preparation for the opening, potential applicants should register on the portal in advance. Applicants will also need a smartphone and a multi-factor authenticator app to register and apply."
In an email earlier today, we send you the following additional information. APAP will continue to update information as the SBA releases it.

The following guidance was just released:

  • Application Checklist (Updated 4/23/2021) - This checklist does not add new documentation requirements, but clarifies which documents are required, and which are optional.

  • Application from the Office of Management and Budget (Updated April 22, 2021) - Please note that this was not officially released by the SBA, but comes from OMB.

APAP's advocacy partners met with the SBA earlier today. Here are some key tips and takeaways we would like to offer:

  • An hour in advance of the opening, the portal will post a "holding" message. We highly encourage applicants to register in advance, if you have not already done so.

  • The SBA is implementing a "waiting room" between the portal server and applicants, so that if the server gets overwhelmed, applicants will keep their place in line.

  • Grant application reviewers will be instructed to look at applications in a comprehensive manner to spot omissions that are simple errors. There will be a process in place to fix simple errors, with a particular awareness of the complexity of the tax return documentation. Because they will consider the totality of your application, we recommend that you provide explanation where possible.

  • Multiple document uploads will be available, with more clarity about what is required and what optional information will better support an application.

  • The revised revenue chart included in the new application form is among the most substantial changes. It is intended to allow applicants to choose a calendar or fiscal year approach.

  • The SBA is referring applicants to their Customer Service Call Center to address technology questions (such as a password reset, browser suggestions, or how to use the multi-factor authentication with an app and the QR code) at 1-800-659-2955 (or for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, 1-800-877-8339) and follow the prompts to SVOG assistance. The call center is open through the weekend from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT.
