BREAKING NEWS: Congressmen Push to Block State-Run Private-Sector Retirement Accounts
While San Diego county retiree benefits are not in jeopardy, RESDC strongly believes that all workers should have a secure retirement. People without it pose an economic burden to themselves, their families, and society.

On February 8th, two members of the House of Representatives in Washington introduced resolutions that would strike down a recent Department of Labor regulation that supports states' efforts to help low- and moderate-wage private-sector workers save for retirement. California's version of the "Secure Choice" Program was approved by Governor Brown on September 29, 2016. The mission of the program, slated to be implemented in 2019, is to promote greater retirement savings for California's private-sector workers who currently lack access to employer-sponsored retirement plans. Secure Choice would provide access to a voluntary, low-risk, low-cost, portable retirement savings plan that enables direct payroll contributions into a personal Individual Retirement Account (IRA) managed by a private-sector financial firm overseen by the California Secure Choice Board.

RESDC disagrees with these resolutions, which rely on flawed analysis and are designed to derail innovative programs being implemented in seven states and evaluated in at least 25 more. We have sent letters to local U.S. Congress members and Senators asking for a no vote to this attack on private-sector workers, who are entitled to a secure retirement.
