In remembrance...

Anita Parker of Edinboro and her four siblings knew they wanted to do something special to remember their parents, James Charles Kennedy and Mary Helen Frye Kennedy, who for part of their lives made their home near North Park. It was during one of her many fitness runs around the lake that Anita discovered the perfect tribute.
She contacted the Allegheny County Parks Foundation and with the help of Capital Projects Manager and landscape architect Ronald Schipani, they worked out the details of a placing an all steel park bench at a serene spot overlooking the lake. They also decided to install commemorative plaques on the back of the bench in honor of each parent.
"When I think about them when I'm the lake, it makes me feel good," Anita said.
The siblings recently unveiled the bench tribute to their extended family members and took a moment to pose for this poignant picture. In birth order, from r to l: Kathy Walker of Conneaut Lake; Anita Parker of Edinboro; Janet Gubanic of Blawnox; Mary Sue Wilczynski of Wexford and James Kennedy of Hampton.
Hartwood in bloom
The new perennial garden at Hartwood Acres is a sight to behold! Special thanks to County Parks Intern Nancy Murin for her creativity and hard work installing and maintaining this inspirational space. Her efforts this summer will be admired and enjoyed for many years to come.
