OUR SUMMER
SUNDAY SCHEDULE:

One Service at 9:30am
in the Sanctuary

(Our 3-Service Schedule will return after
Labor Day)

Sunday, August 11, 2019

Summer Schedule:
Summer Sunday Morning Education at 8:30am
Sunday Worship at 9:30am  in the Sanctuary

Preacher: Kristy Farber

Sermon: "Good Pleasure"
Scripture: Psalm 145:1-13, Luke 12:32-40

"To some, the temporal triumph of the Christian
community in the world is a sign of God's favor and
the essential righteousness of the Christian position.
The irony of the matter, though, is that whenever
the Christian community gains worldly power,
it nearly always loses its capacity to be the critic
of the power and influence it so readily brokers."

~ Peter J. Gomes

Gun Violence Prevention
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I bear pain in my soul,
and have sorrow in my heart all day long?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

Below is the link to the webpage for Presbyterian Peace Fellowship about gun violence. Far from being a political issue, gun violence is an epidemic that affects church communities profoundly. Our faith calls us to do more. Please visit www.presbypeacefellowship.org/gun-violence

Spiritual Direction Group
4 Sundays beginning September 8th
Margaret Redman and Ben McConaughy are offering a spiritual direction group for four weeks beginning September 8th. Group spiritual direction is a structured opportunity to explore where God is moving in the members' individual and collective lives. We will center ourselves in the Spirit, share a bit of our lives, and intentionally reflect on the perceived presence of God. If you have any questions, please contact:
Margaret ([email protected]
or Ben ([email protected]).

Building Campaign Update
HVAC  technicians are busy installing units on the roof, thermostats around the church and other items that will make MIPC more energy efficient. One item is the division of the ARK classrooms into four heating zones. Dampers have been placed in the Nursery and Wave heating ducts that will allow sections of the ARK to be heated during the day rather than heating all the rooms as we have been doing.

A wall was removed to help create new office space near the Rock. Now a new wall exists that provides a small group area for student ministries and office  space for Pastor Angela
Miksovsky, the English Ministries Pastor at First Taiwanese Presbyterian Church (FTPC). Next a new window will be added to the student ministries space, new LED lights will be added to the rooms, electrical updates will occur and then painting and decorating. The space will look great!

We are moving forward!

Facilities Usage 2019
A review of our facilities usage protocol, prices and contract was completed. This resulted in new pricing for outside groups and some new policies for everyone. The new documents are attached.

A summary of the changes in procedure are:

· Sundays are set aside for worship. Activities not directly related to worship will no longer occur on Sundays.
· Ash Wednesday and Holy Week will be set aside for worship activities only; exclusion will be Pebble Preschool and Epic Days.
· Furniture used in a room must be returned to its original position unless a special arrangement has been made.
· Trash must be emptied by the group using the room.
· All dishes and cutlery must be compostable. (Contact Judith Baxter, [email protected], if you need help with this.)
· Church-owned audio-visual equipment may only be used with permission. (Expect equipment to be locked up.)

Thank you for helping us to make this a clean, well-functioning worship space that we can share with the community
.

Sanctuary Flowers Invitation
Each Sunday, congregation members have the opportunity to provide the beauty of flowers to the sanctuary. Many donate to honor loved ones who have passed, celebrate an anniversary or birthday or just because they love seeing flowers at church. Whatever the reason, your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated. Flowers can come from your garden or a flower shop, whatever works best for you. Because some are allergic to floral fragrances, it's best to plan flowers without fragrances. Thank you.

Please look at the calendar to see if there is a specific Sunday that you would like to provide flowers for worship in the sanctuary. Your beautiful donation will be recognized in the bulletin.

Please reach out to Brian at the front desk to coordinate your donation or if you have any questions, [email protected].
