From the Helm: DC Sail High School Racers Participate in National Regatta
~ Report from Nick Budington, DC Sail High School Sailor
This July, a group of DC Sail High School Racing Program sailors joined forces for the
CJ Buckley c420 Team Race National Championships, hosted in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
CJ was a talented young sailor who lost his life to cancer at age 16, and the Regatta was started in 2003 by his teammates at Greenwich Bay Sailing Association, a community sailing program like DC Sail. It is now one of the major events on the summer national "circuit".
Team "The District", comprised of Matt Budington, Nick Budington and Liam Gronda (Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School), Colman and Conrad Schofield (Yorktown High School) and Linnea Forsberg (Stone Ridge High School).
We had a great time at the two-day event and placed 7
th overall out of 24 talented teams from all over the country.
Editorial Comment: Congratulations to these accomplished and inspiring young sailors! Bethesda Magazine recently published an article "Sail Away" featuring our vibrant High School Racing Program. Please click here for a link to the story.
"Nick Budington says he likes the focus required of sailing as well as the friends he's made at regattas. "Sailing is something I love now, and something I can love all my life," he says. "I can do this wherever."

12th Annual Cantina Cup
~ Saturday, September 14, 2019
"My two daughters had an amazing experience with the DC Sail summer camp and have talked about it throughout the year. We are in a fortunate position to afford it. I believe all kids should have a chance to have similar experiences regardless of their parents' income level. " ~ Irina
Cantina Cup Regatta is our signature fundraising event that supports the ability to bring children to summer camps and high school racing, at little to no cost to their families.
Our Youth Scholarship Program provides over $20,000 annually in scholarship opportunities to children under the age of 18, who would otherwise not have the ability to explore the beauty of the sport of sailing via an engaging STEM curriculum, water safety instruction, and building awareness for an appreciation of our fragile waterway systems.
With the growth of our programs and facilities, we have the ability to increase the number of children we serve in the DC Metro area. With your help, we hope to provide even more scholarship opportunities in 2020!
Please consider a generous donation to support our Youth Scholarship Program by clicking here.
We are also seeking individual and corporate sponsorship of the annual fundraising event. Please contact Traci Mead to explore opportunities to show your support in helping us to provide these unique and beautiful programs for children less fortunate than ourselves. Phone: 202-547-1250 or email: tmead@dcsail.org.
