Community Events & Resources

Add your voice to protect and strengthen programs we all depend on as we age. Join the National Council on Aging, and follow federal aging services legislation and speak up on the issues you care about.

Over the last few weeks, the NCOA community has stepped up in support of a program that helps older adults afford their Medicare costs. More than 13,000 messages were sent to members of Congress.

Legislators have taken notice. Now it's time to push this issue across the finish line of March 8, the deadline to fund the government.

Here are some simple ways you can help.

• Contact your Representative while the House is in recess next week.

Many legislators are back home next week, listening to constituents' concerns and priorities. Give their district office a call, or attend one of their local events! If you don't have the opportunity to do so, you can always use our simple form to send a message.

• Read and share our article about the importance of this funding.

The article lays out what's at stake if the funding isn't continued. It's a great primer on the issue, including the perspective of 74 other national health organizations who signed letters to Congress.

• Use our fact sheets to inform your friends, family, colleagues, and your Representative. It's likely that most people you talk to will be hearing about this issue for the first time. These fact sheets can be printed and shared as a way to kickstart their engagement on behalf of keeping Medicare affordable.

This Medicare assistance program has proven its worth. That's why it enjoyed bipartisan support from Congress for 15 years. Unfortunately, it's now being used as a bargaining chip.

With all the pressing issues facing Congress right now, we need to make sure the health of vulnerable older adults doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

On behalf of the older adults who will benefit from this assistance: thank you for using your voice!

Meals on Wheels Funding is at Risk

With the annual appropriations process underway, it is essential to urge Congress to protect and increase funding for Meals on Wheels programs nationwide. Simply maintaining current funding levels isn’t an acceptable outcome and in fact would represent a funding cut at a time when more investments are desperately needed. Seniors are depending on us to speak out and demand action – email your Senators and Representative today!
