Message from Superintendent Dr. McCluskey:

Welcome Back to School!

Dear BSD2 Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!

As we begin another exciting year together, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to all of our returning families and those joining the BSD2 community for the first time. We are excited to open our doors and begin a year filled with learning, growth, and opportunity.

We are continuing last year's theme, ALL IN, which reflects our commitment to every student, every family, and every member of our school community. Being ALL IN means showing up each day ready to learn, support one another, embrace challenges, and celebrate successes together. It means working as one team with a shared purpose: helping every student reach their full potential.

Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare classrooms, create engaging learning experiences, and ensure every child feels welcomed, supported, and inspired from day one. Together, we will make this a year filled with meaningful learning, lasting memories, and incredible achievements.

Thank you for choosing Bensenville School District 2. We are proud to have you as part of our BSD2 family, and we look forward to an amazing year ahead—we're ALL IN!

Warmly,

Dr. Katie McCluskey

Dress Code and Cell Phone Policy Updates

As we prepare for the new school year, we'd like to share two important updates that will help create a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for all students.

Cell Phone Policy

This school year, Bensenville School District 2 will implement updates to our cell phone procedures in accordance with recently signed Illinois legislation. While the new law does not significantly change our current practices, we want families to be aware of a few important updates for the 2026–2027 school year.

Students are expected to keep cell phones and other personal communication devices, including cellular-enabled watches and smartwatches, turned off and put away during the school day. In addition, middle school students will no longer be permitted to use their cell phones during lunch.

These expectations are designed to minimize distractions, promote student engagement, and support meaningful learning throughout the school day. We also recognize the importance of students and families being able to communicate when necessary. Students will always be able to contact their parents or guardians through the school office when needed. In the event of a school emergency, students will be permitted to use their cell phones as appropriate.

School principals will review and reinforce these expectations with students and families during back-to-school events and at the beginning of the school year. We appreciate our families’ partnership in helping students understand and follow these expectations so that our schools can remain focused on learning and student engagement.

Student Dress Code

Our dress code is intended to promote safety, respect, and an inclusive learning environment where every student feels comfortable, valued, and ready to learn. If a student's clothing does not meet the district's dress code expectations, we will work with them respectfully by providing one of the following options:

  • Change into their own appropriate clothing
  • Change into school-provided clothing
  • Have a parent or guardian bring replacement clothing

Our goal is always to partner with families and address these situations in a supportive, respectful manner while maintaining a positive learning environment for all students.

BSD2 Health Requirements: Physicals & Immunizations for the 2026–2027 School Year

Help your child start the school year healthy and ready to learn!

Illinois requires certain health examinations and immunizations to be completed before the first day of school in order for students to attend.

The following students must have a current physical examination and updated immunization records on file before the first day of school:

  • Students entering Pre-K or Kindergarten for the first time
  • 6th grade students
  • Out-of-state transfer students (all grade levels)

Please review the information sheet for additional health requirements, including vision exams, dental exams, and sports physicals, along with the grade-level deadlines for each.

Blackhawk Middle School Athletics

Students planning to participate in interscholastic sports at Blackhawk Middle School must have a current sports physical completed each year before tryouts.

If you have questions about your child's health requirements, please contact your school nurse on or after August 12:

The 2026–2027 BSD2 Student Handbook Is Now Available

During registration, families acknowledged that they received, read, and understood the Student Handbook. As the start of the school year approaches, we encourage everyone to review it again to refresh their understanding of the important information it contains.

The handbook serves as a valuable resource throughout the school year and includes essential information about district policies, attendance, student expectations, transportation, health and safety procedures, technology use, family resources, and more.

Taking a few minutes to review the handbook now can help students and families begin the school year informed, prepared, and ready for success. We also encourage families to refer back to the handbook throughout the year whenever questions arise.
