District 2 Maintains ‘Commendable’ Status on 2025 Illinois Report Card
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has released the 2025 Illinois Report Cards, and Bensenville School District 2 is proud to share that all three of our schools have maintained a Commendable Summative Designation this year. Maintaining our status represents continued progress and a reflection of the hard work of our students, staff, and families.
“Maintaining our Commendable status reflects the steady work happening in our classrooms,” said Dr. Katie McCluskey, Superintendent. “Our staff continues to focus on student learning, use data to guide instruction, and collaborate to support growth. We will continue to refine our practices to support meaningful learning and growth for every student.”
This year, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) adjusted the proficiency benchmarks for English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science to better align with proficiency norms across our country. Those adjusted proficiency benchmarks are reflected in this year’s data. Additionally, ISBE is currently redesigning its summative designation process, which will go into effect next year. The redesign will impact summative designations for schools across Illinois. We will share more information with staff and families about these changes when it is available.
Summative designations are determined by two main areas: Academic Indicators and Student Success Indicators. Academic Indicators measure factors such as growth and proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science, as well as English Learners’ Progress toward Proficiency. The Student Success Indicators include measures like chronic absenteeism and results from the statewide climate survey (5Essentials). Prioritizing these indicators as areas of continuous improvement is important to our growth and success as a district.
School Highlights
Blackhawk Middle School (BMS):
We are proud of the progress happening at Blackhawk resulting in commendable status for the second year. While BMS will continue in Targeted School Improvement Status for the full four-year cycle required by ISBE, we have witnessed growth in reducing chronic absenteeism and improving school culture. We recognize there is still important progress to make, we are focused on consistent growth and strengthening the learning experience for all students.

Both Johnson and Tioga Elementary Schools excelled in key areas such as reducing chronic absenteeism, maintaining student growth rates in ELA and math, and improving school climate. We are proud of the ongoing efforts at both Tioga and Johnson and remain focused on building steady progress moving forward. The Illinois Report Card offers our community the opportunity to reflect on our strengths and identify areas for continuous improvement.Through ongoing collaboration and a commitment to every student’s learning and growth, BSD2 remains focused on its mission to inspire, challenge, and empower all students to reach their full potential.
