LEARN TOGETHER, LEAD TOGETHER
Thank you, BSD2 School Board Members!

November 15 – School Board Member Day – is our opportunity to thank the seven members of the Bensenville School District 2 Board of Education:
- Robert Laudadio, President
- Marisol Leyva, Vice President
- Jacqueline Dye, Secretary
- Lori Parthimos, Treasurer
- Victoria Gonzalez
- Anita Miller
- James Stoltman
These individuals wear many hats: they are educational leaders, policy makers, contract negotiators, and budgeters.
But they are also our neighbors and our friends!
They are the front-line advocates providing a local voice for the BSD2 community, a vision for the District, and a pathway to success for every student. They safeguard two of our community’s most precious resources – our children and tax dollars – while striving to create the best educational environment possible with the resources available.
They also take on this responsibility not for a paycheck, but for their commitment to our community and its children. They donate their time to this community and commit to making our schools welcoming, safe places for our students to achieve their dreams.
So thank you, Bensenville School District 2 Board of Education Members, for learning together and leading together. Together, we are making a difference for every District 2 student!

BONE CHILLING!
Halloween was freezing but fun!

The cold, wet weather didn't dampen District 2's Halloween spirit, as students and parents, both, still enjoyed the annual costume parades at Johnson and Tioga despite the snow!
And Blackhawk Middle School celebrated a week before the winter weather arrived with their Hawk Haunted Hangout on October 26. What a fun night! The kids looked great in their costumes, and the BMS PTO came out in force to put on a wonderful party!

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
Dual-language second graders join Elmhurst University's holiday celebration

Last week, Elmhurst University’s chapter of the Alpha Mu Gamma national collegiate foreign language honorary society hosted District 2’s dual-language second grade classes for a special celebration of Dia de Los Muertos, a predominantly Mexican holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2.
For Día de los Muertos, families and friends gather to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died, often enjoying traditional dishes while trading humorous stories about their departed loved ones.
During this special celebration on the Elmhurst University campus, the students learned about this holiday by listening to a story, making a craft, and learning about the ofrendas.

STEAM NIGHT
Johnson families enjoy an evening of science, tech, engineering, art, and math activities

Thank you to all of the families who attended STEAM Night at W.A. Johnson School last week.
The evening featured fun for the whole family - math games, Ozobots, all kinds of science experiments, and - of course - the Johnson PTA’s Scholastic Book Fair.
It was a wonderful showcase of the Johnson community’s work to prepare the next generation to be problem solvers and innovative thinkers through science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics education!

CHOOSE KINDNESS
BMX legend shares anti-bullying message with Blackhawk students

Last week, BMX superstar and motivational speaker Matt Wilhelm visited Blackhawk Middle School for grade-level anti-bullying assemblies in which he encouraged students to choose kindness over meanness.
Wilhelm shared with students how he was bullied at their age, but persevered to become a three-time X Games Medalist, World Championship Silver Medalist, two-time United States National Champion, and Guinness World Record Holder.
And, of course, he demonstrated some of the tricks that earned him those accolades, as well as winning appearances on America's Got Talent and FOX TV's 30 Seconds to Fame.

BUS DRIVERS!
LUNCH SUPERVISORS!
CROSSING GUARDS!
Looking for part-time employment? District 2 has the perfect opportunity for you!

District 2 is looking to fill several part-time positions that are perfect employment opportunities for retirees and for parents interested in working while their children are at school.
BUS DRIVERS
Being a part-time bus driver is a rewarding opportunity! Pay starts at $27 per hour with a $2,000 sign-on bonus. The position includes sick days and contributions toward an IMRF pension. District 2 also provides paid training for the required commercial driver’s license and longevity bonuses for years of service.
LUNCH & RECESS SUPERVISORS
Many of our lunch and recess supervisors are parents working part time during the middle of the day while their children are at school. Lunch and recess supervisors work with students in order for students to eat lunch, come and go from the lunchroom and playground, and monitor students’ behavior while they eat and play. Some supervisors also work breakfast shifts. Pay starts at $14.30 per hour.
CROSSING GUARDS
Crossing guards work short shifts every morning and every afternoon, helping students cross busy intersections and walkways on their way to and from school. Pay starts at $14.30 per hour.

BSD2 E-FLYERS
Here are the current community flyers posted on the District's website

District 2 has gone "green" in its approach to distributing community flyers.
Rather than sending flyers home with each student via backpack mail, District and community flyers are posted on the BSD2 E-Flyers page for parents to view or print 24/7.
It is estimated that this saves our schools hundreds of hours per year spent sorting and handling the materials, not to mention the number of trees and other resources saved in producing them.
