CURRICULUM NIGHTS

Find out what your students will learn this year!

All BSD2 schools will host curriculum nights in September.

Check out the renovations completed this summer at Blackhawk Middle School

Over the summer, District 2 completed Phase 1 of its renovation plans for Blackhawk Middle School, which included the abatement of asbestos and installation of new flooring throughout the building.

Check out before and after photos in the video above!

Next summer, the District will tackle Phase 2 of its renovations planned for Blackhawk. It will bring new  interior finishes; science, nursing and special education upgrades; classroom additions; courtyard renovations; and the expansion of the school’s gym and fitness facilities.

CARE TO VOLUNTEER?

District 2's CARE Volunteer Program is the perfect place to make a big difference in students' lives!

Wednesday, August 30, was Welcome Day for the BSD2 CARE Volunteer Program.

This was where we welcome back experienced volunteers and introduce new ones to the District and to the CARE program.

But don't worry if you missed it and want to volunteer!

CARE just kicked off September 11, so just contact Lara Schwarz, CARE Coordinator & Community Liaison, at 630-766-2605, ext. 3202, or lschwarz@bsd2.org.

Let her know that you want to give just one hour of your time each week as a CARE volunteer.

Lara and our team of CARE Facilitators will find the perfect place for you to make a big difference in the lives of District 2 students!

How can we improve our COVID safety plans?

Throughout the school year, the District’s COVID safety plans are updated to reflect the latest practices across the District and guidance from public health officials.

Those revised plans can be reviewed below:

To meet requirements to receive federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funding, District 2 must seek public input on its COVID safety plans every six months.

WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK

Please take the School Climate Transformation Grant Survey by September 22

In Bensenville School District 2, we partner with families to provide student-centered instruction to all our students. In order to achieve this, we look for your feedback about your experiences in BSD2.

Our School Climate Transformation Grant is a funding source for the evidence-based school culture. This includes professional development and coaching to increase academic performance and increase student positive behavioral supports. The grant also addresses family education and community partner resources. All these work together to help students “improve academically, participate more fully in the classroom, and develop skills that will help them be successful in school, and eventually in their life as adults.”

Below is a link to the Family School Climate Transformation Grant Survey. You can access the survey by clicking on the hyperlinks below, or pasting the URLs into your browser. Please complete by September 22.

Thank you for partnering with us as we learn and grow together!

FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING

Nobody knows your child better than you!

Bensenville School District 2 will conduct free developmental screenings for children ages 3-5 on Wednesday and Thursday, September 13 and 14.

These screenings are the first step in identifying children for our Preschool for All program and/or Head Start.

Professionals will assess the development of your child’s gross and fine motor skills, pre-academic readiness, and speech, language, vision and hearing.

Call the Tioga School office at 630-766-2602 ext. 4200 to schedule an appointment for your child’s screening.

BABY TALK!

District 2's free Birth-to-3 Parent Education Program helps nurture newborns' developmental growth

The first three years of life are a period of incredible developmental growth. The experiences a child has during this time help build lifelong skills such as language, self-regulation, and social/emotional competence.

That’s why District 2 operates a free, year-round BSD2 Birth-to-3 Program: to encourage warm, nurturing parent/child interactions that lay the foundation for school readiness, emotional competence, and positive mental health.

The BSD2 Birth-to-3 Program offers the following activities:

  • Home visits with targeted educational supports based on family need
  • Age appropriate educational activities that promote healthy brain development and self-regulation skills
  • Developmental assessments
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Monthly educational workshops in the areas of brain development, nutrition, discipline, and literacy
  • Outings to the Bensenville Library that build
  • literacy and social skills
  • Field trips to increase family engagement

To learn more about the BSD2 Birth-to-3 Program and qualifying requirements, contact Blanca Cruz at 630-766-2602 ext.4308.

BSD2 E-FLYERS

Here are the current community flyers posted on the District's website

District 2 has gone "green" in its approach to distributing community flyers.

Rather than sending flyers home with each student via backpack mail, District and community flyers are posted on the BSD2 E-Flyers page for parents to view or print 24/7.

It is estimated that this saves our schools hundreds of hours per year spent sorting and handling the materials, not to mention the number of trees and other resources saved in producing them.
