School Vision & Hearing Screenings Begin Week of September 22

Beginning the week of September 22, we will conduct school vision and hearing screenings. These screenings are vital because undetected vision or hearing issues can seriously affect a child’s learning, behavior, and emotional well-being—yet children often aren’t aware of the impairment. Early detection and treatment can make a meaningful difference.

Who will be screened?

  • Hearing screenings must be provided annually for preschool children 3 years of age or older in any public or private educational program or licensed child care facility, and for all school age children grades kindergarten, first, second and third; are receiving special education services; have been referred by a teacher; or are transfer students.
  • Vision screenings must be provided annually for preschool children 3 years of age or older in any public or private educational program or licensed child care facility, and for school age children in kindergarten, second and eighth grades; are receiving special education services; have been referred by a teacher; or are transfer students.

Please note: If your child has had a professional eye or hearing exam within the past 12 months, you may submit a signed report instead of having them screened at school. Please provide this documentation to the school nurse.

Religious Exemptions

If you object to screening on religious grounds, submit a written and signed statement to the school.

If you have concerns about the process, follow-up appointments, or encounter financial barriers to accessing care, please reach out to our Coordinator of Health Services, Katie Adduci, at kadduci@bsd2.org

Effective August 15, 2025, Bensenville School District 2 discontinued using Facebook for official communications. This decision was made because recent changes to Facebook’s policies no longer provide the level of privacy and security our community requires.

From this date forward, all official district information will be shared through our most secure and reliable channels:

  • Website: www.bsd2.org and individual school webpages
  • Bi‑monthly e‑newsletters delivered via email

Meanwhile, updates, photo galleries, event reminders, and engaging content continue to be published on our social media platforms:

If you need help accessing any of these platforms or signing up, contact our Community Relations Coordinator, Tania Gomez, at 630‑766‑5940 ext. 1122 or via email at tgomez@bsd2.org.

FREE Developmental Screenings for Ages 3–5

Do you have a child between the ages of 3 and 5? Ensure they're ready for kindergarten by signing up for a free developmental screening! Your child must be 3 years old by the screening date, and an appointment is required. Screenings take about one hour.

What’s Included:

Professionals will assess:

  • Large & fine motor skills
  • Pre-academic readiness
  • Speech, language, vision & hearing

These screenings help:

  • Identify eligibility for District’s free preschool program
  • Detect needs for additional support before kindergarten

Children already attending the District’s preschool have already been screened.

Screenings provide a snapshot of a child’s development—covering motor, cognitive, and language skills—to ensure they’re meeting typical milestones

Why It Matters:

  • About 1 in 7 children experience developmental delays, and only 20–30% are identified before school entry.
  • Early screening allows early intervention, leading to improved school performance, social skills, and lifelong success.

2025–2026 Screening Calendar:

  • September 18
  • October 22
  • December 5
  • February 19
  • May 29
