Dear Parents,

Everybody complains about the weather but no one ever does anything about it.

Well, we did this week (sort of). We ignored the weather and had a spectacular week at school. Our youngest students in kindergarten got into the full swing of things after only being with us for half a day last week and our middle school completed the fall Scantron testing during the past two days. And, everyone else in between got settled in with new classes and new teachers. It looks like next week will be a more pleasant one to be outside and we already have classes lining up to use the Outdoor Classroom (one intrepid class used it this week for a short time). The joy and energy and hope and exuberance of the children bring this building back to life after a summer of slumber. Overall, it has been a very smooth entrance to the school year.

As I mentioned before we returned, the scandal in the church has shaken our faith, literally, over the summer. But Blessed Sacrament remains strong and it is increasingly evident that we have a capacity to create a true community here that supports and encourages each other. We will continue to provide opportunities to grow in the faith, ever mindful of the increased challenges that we face. Please note that Fr. Foley will be holding a 'town meeting' on September 16 at 2:00 PM in the gym to allow the school/parish community to share thoughts and feelings about the Pennsylvania report and the news about Cardinal McCarrick.

I look forward to seeing everyone next week either Tuesday or Thursday (or both) for our Back to School Nights. Tuesday is for K-5 and Thursday is for middle school. Please come prepared to sign up to volunteer for one of the many school events this year and please remember, this is an evening for adults only, students and other children may not attend.
