Dear Parents,

Welcome back everyone!

We had a great first week and we had a great first two days for our new Kindergartners!

As we begin the year, I want to be sure that we are all aware of morning carpool policies and practices.

Morning drop off on blacktop:  We try to unload as many cars at a time as we can. We had a parent generously donate a sign last year to help with this process. When you enter the blacktop, pull as far forward as you can. If you are past the sign, unload to the right side of the vehicle. The children walk to the gym and you exit the blacktop down the LEFT alley.

Morning drop off on Chevy Chase Parkway: PLEASE NO is illegal and dangerous. (The traffic flow is such that entering the Circle and doing a 360 to come back down Chevy Chase Parkway is not a challenge.) Do not walk your children into the buidling. The area from the Kindergarten alley to the other side of the playground is for drop off only. If you would like to park, please pull up closer to the apartment building and walk back. The reason that the area in front of the entrance is wide open is because everyone else just did drop off, not because you got super lucky.

Morning drop off on both sides:
Please try to have your children ready to 'disembark'. We have a couple hundred cars that need to get in and out every day. If possible, please do not get out to let your children out (we realize that this may not be possible with the youngest children but please be mindful of the others that need to get through the process on either side of the building). We will continue to have staff at every entrance and we will continue to try to help keep things moving. This week is the toughest week, especially because of the Kindergarten drop off.

Reminder: Next week, Montgomery County schools start and the traffic returns to 'normal'. Plan on a few extra minutes because all the schools will be in session and everyone will be back from summer vacations.

We had a pleasant, happy, energetic first week. We look forward to keeping the momentum going next week.

Please see the Weekly for important information about flip-flopping our Back to School Nights!!!!

Enjoy your weekend.

Stay Informed!

Once again, we will be using PlusPortals to post homework, attendance, and report cards for all grade levels.  Assignment and test scores will be posted for grades 5-8 only.

All parents (who have an email on file with BSS) have access to PlusPortals. New parents should have received an email on Wednesday with log in information and a temporary password.
The temporary password will expire in 72 hours so please create an account now.  If you have any trouble accessing your PlusPortals account, please email Caitlin Hall at

Parents can also download the ParentPlus app on an iPhone or Android. Be sure to enter Blessed Sacrament DC as the school name (don't forgot the DC).

Every fall parents in each grade gather for a Class  Social . These fun parties are a great   BSS   tradition which allows parents to mingle, catch up with old friends, and meet new ones. A family in each grade hosts the  social  for the entire class at their home. Details and invitation will be forthcoming.

Boy Scout Troop 90 Wants You!!
Join our first meeting
Wednesday, September 4
from 7:30 - 8:30 pm
in the Parish Center.
No obligation. No scouting experience necessary.

All boys 11 years old and up or having graduated 5th grade are invited to join Blessed Sacrament's Boy Scout Troop 90! Scouting gives young people the opportunity to explore a world beyond the boundaries of everyday life. They get to try new things, develop friendships, provide service to others, build self-confidence, and develop leadership skills. And have fun while doing it!  This past summer, Troop 90 went scuba diving in St. Croix for the Sea Base High Adventure! Here are just a few things we've done:
  • Earning first aid, emergency preparedness, wilderness survival, and many other merit badges
  • Serving the community through the Greg Gannon Food Drive and other service projects
  • Rock Climbing at Laurel Caverns, PA
  • Camping at Antietam National Battlefield
  • Backpacking in Philmont Scout Ranch, New Mexico
  • Canoeing in the Boundary Waters, Minnesota for Northern Tier High Adventure
  • Skiing/snowboarding at Wisp and Snowshoe
  • Summer campouts at Goshen Camp, VA - staffed by Eagle Scouts from Blessed Sacrament
Our troop meetings Wednesday nights from 7:30 - 8:30 pm in the Parish Center. We host monthly campouts, hikes, and other outdoor activities.

Come join the adventure- where the best part of reaching your goal is the journey!
