Dear Parents,

We'll celebrate Christmas in the next Weekly, but I wanted to take a moment to recognize the historic event that occurred this past Saturday. Pearl Harbor is, to me, what 9/11 is to our students, an attack that occurred on American soil before I was born. Just like 9/11 changed who we are as a country and how we view the rest of the world, Pearl Harbor did the same thing over a half a century before. To commemorate that day, one of our patrols, Hugh Bukowski, (who raises the flag for us every day), asked if he could bring in a flag that his family owns that was flown over the Arizona. We flew it last Friday because we were not here at school on Saturday. I wanted to recognize Hugh's offer and let everyone know about the flag they drove past on Friday.

(Not finding a segue... he just completely changes the subject). We are going to be doing a fundraiser to help a sister school. Last year around this time, we had a $2 dress down day and a Bake Sale (teachers doing the baking) to support Holy Family School. This year we have a school closer to home that we are going to support. St. Bart's is facing some similar challenges and Blessed Sacrament and many other Catholic schools in the archdiocese are doing what we can to show support of this long-time friendly rival of ours. Next Thursday, December 19, students are encouraged to 'dress down', with an ugly sweater and bring $2 for the dress down and another dollar for the bake sale (teachers doing the baking again). Please help us to support St. Bart's.

Another reminder- PLEASE no U-turns on Chevy Chase Pkwy at morning drop off. (I was meeting with a parent this morning and was not able to get out there but got a report of a large black SUV impeding traffic.)
