Dear Parents,

Better, Smarter Safer: This week we celebrated the refurbished library and took the next steps in implementing the ALICE program on school safety. On Monday morning, we celebrated the new library space with staff and donors and Sr. Mary Ann Dunn. Sr. Mary Ann came back to see the improvements in the area where she brought the joy of reading to so many of our youngest students over the years. We gathered in the main library and enjoyed refreshments amid the new furniture, redesigned stacks and new laptop lab. A group of kindergarten and first grade students joined us so that Sr. Mary Ann could read to them in the Sr. Mary Ann Learning Center, the refurbished back of the library complete with a Promethean board. The entire library has been transformed through the fundraising efforts and hard work of the Home and School Association
and the Raise the Paddle effort at the benefit. In addition to all of the improvements listed above, the school also purchased three new databases, PebbleGo, Britannica School and Kodable to make the best use of the laptop lab.

On Tuesday evening, Mrs. Walsh-Rogan, Ms. Hamilton, and I presented an overview of the ALICE  program to parents. While it is an uncomfortable topic, we have gotten positive feedback from those  who were able to attend. I also met with the fifth grade on Wednesday and the eighth grade yesterday  and those sessions seemed to be equally well received. As, I have indicated we will give introductory  presentations to all grade levels by the end of February. You will be getting communications about these
sessions as they occur. I have had some parents ask for a copy of the powerpoint that I shared on Tuesday. I plan to send that out next week as an attachment to the Weekly, but the majority of the presentation was discussion, not slides. We are also considering a second parent evening in March.

Second Reminder: Smash and grab. After the car break-in at CCPC last week, another car was vandalized on Saturday morning, on the blacktop, while about 35 of us were at a meeting in the upper level of the parish center! My understanding is that our cameras were able to help the police identify and apprehend the person (not sure if it was the same one that did it at CCPC). Please hide valuables or take
them with you...don't make your car an attractive target.
