What is BTB Feng Shui?
By BTB Grand Master Lin Yun

(An excerpt from the June 1993 Yun Lin Temple News)

Black Sect includes an additional instrument to harmonize the environment: the channeling and balancing of Chi. My theory, besides embracing sying, also includes something extra: yi. Yi—loosely translated as a wish, a will, or an intention—plays an important role in Black Sect feng shui. Yi is a blessing, a way of adjusting and enhancing chi through intuition and imposition of the will of the expert (and the will of the client) on a house or a person. It is a vital but intangible process—a positive transference and transformation of energy (chi)—that reinforces and blesses the physical aspect (sying) of feng shui.

The concept of Ch'i is central to Feng Shui basics.  The basic rules of Ch'i are:

  • Energy cannot be stopped
  • It can only be redirected
  • Energy cannot be destroyed
  • It can only be transformed

Feng Shui Glossary Word of the Month:  Black Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui

BTB Feng Shui has its roots in the pre-Buddhist, Bon religion of Tibet. It was also influenced by Indian Buddhism and later took on the traditions of Chinese philosophy including Feng Shui. It was brought to the West around 1980, and its practices spread rapidly through the Americas. The BTB Feng Shui Bagua is a modification of the Wen Wang (Later Heaven) Bagua and is superimposed on a site, building, or room using the Three Door Method which aligns the entry with one the three trigrams: Gen (Knowledge), Kan (Career) or Qian (Helpful People). BTB Feng Shui emphasizes following the flow of qi/chi (in the space and the person), the use of transcendental solutions to reinforce mundane remedies, the power of intention and self-cultivation through meditation.  Also called Black Hat, BTB Feng.

"Pin"spiration

Having a solid wall behind you where you sit such as this beautiful white brick wall behind this couch will give you support and protection.  Balance out the room with the other elements such as the plant (earth), coffee table (wood) and the candles (fire) will make your space so desirable and comfortable that you won’t want to leave it!

Earth Home School of Feng Shui was founded in 2011 and is led by feng shui author Tisha Morris. She combines BTB Feng Shui principles (the most commonly-used Western approach) with intuition and energy to teach you her approach and methods to practicing feng shui. The Course is designed for anyone who wants to become a feng shui practitioner or looking to add feng shui as a modality to their existing practice. Perfect for holistic practitioners, stagers or real estate agents, interior designers/decorators, life coach/health coach, or anyone interested in making a difference in your life and others.

Final Thoughts

The bagua (using THE THREE DOOR METHOD)  is laid over the floor-plan which reflects corresponding areas of life.
