FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCPAL

Good Afternoon BUES Parents and Family!!!!

A balance of education at home and school shapes a child's learning. Children tend to imitate their parents and try to behave in much of a similar manner. As educators, it is our job in this shared commitment, to provide a nurturing environment on top of the foundation you have already laid in the home. It is my belief that significant student growth (academically and socially) occurs when both home and school work together toward the same goal. Therefore, let us create a partnership in which we both are role models and helping hands in our children's educational learning.

~Mr. Cortney McCall, Proud Principal of BUES

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Principal Lonnie Moore, Sr.

The Brown Upper Family lost a dear soul in Mr. Lonnie Moore, Sr. Though I never had the opportunity to meet him, I am grateful for his servant-leadership as one of the Principal's and pillars in Brown's history. I only stand today as a proud educational leader because of men and women like Mr. Moore who cleared the path for me in the past. My thoughts and prayers go out to Pastor Lonnie Moore, Jr. and the entire Moore family.

SCHOOLSTORE.COM

Hello Parents,

Yesterday, your child brought home a Parent Information letter letting you know about a safe and easy way for our school to raise funds for essential tools our students and teachers need to succeed.

SchoolStore.com is an online shopping mall where over 350 nationally-known merchants have agreed to give a percentage of sales to K-12 schools. Companies like Walmart, Kohls, Home Depot, shopDisney, and Family Book Store participate. The SchoolStore fundraiser is 100% online so there is NO face-to-face selling, handling money, or delivering products. Our School earns up to 50% of all purchases. Your participation will take less than 12 minutes, and there are exciting prizes to make it fun for the students.

Here is all you need to do to participate:

1. Click HERE to sign up.

2. Send form emails inviting family, friends and co-workers to support your child.

3. Return the letter with the Student Prize Code to school for your child to get their fun participation prize.

Your participation will make a difference for our school and teachers!

Students will receive a stuffed prized of their choice (lion, crocodile, giraffe, cheetah, or elephant) once you sign up and send invitations via email.

Thanks

  • Every morning before instruction begins, students will have the opportunity to read A.R. books and take mini assessments on their Chromebook using the app "myON." Please encourage students to take advantage of this time to increase their reading fluency and comprehension.

  • Instruction begins at 8:10 am

  • Dismissal time 3:25 pm

  • Check-out ends at 3:00 pm (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Our instructional day begins at 8:10 am daily. Please make a strong effort in having your child in class before the tardy bell rings at 8:15 am. Our students deserve every minute of quality instruction available. Please help us by making sure your child is here when instruction begins. Thank you

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Students are required by Louisiana law to be in attendance. It is also the law of the state of Louisiana that personal illnesses (as verified by a doctor), deaths in the family, or extenuating circumstances (as agreed to by the principal) are the ONLY basis for excusing an absence.

When a student is absent, a parent or guardian should call the school office before 9:00 am to report the absence. When an absent child returns to school, a doctor’s excuse or note must be sent to the school within 5 daysOnly five days may be excused by a parent note. All other days must have a doctor’s excuse. In the case of a communicable disease (mumps, measles, chicken pox, etc.) a doctor’s certificate to return is required. Students are responsible for making up all work missed during their absence. Report card grades will reflect any work that is not completed.

Webster Parish policy requires that the names of students with five or more unexcused absences be turned in for attendance investigations. The Truancy Department of the District Attorney’s office will notify the parent/guardian in the case of unexcused absences. Parents or guardians may be fined in the event their child is found to have excessive or habitual unexcused absences.

BUES PARENTAL SUGGESTIONS

Parental Support is NEEDED to ensure success with reading and math fluency.

Remember that when your children see you taking their academics seriously, they will too!

1. Read w/ your child 30 minutes a day.

2. Set aside 10-15 minutes each evening to practice multiplication facts.
