BUILD Project to begin

second phase next week

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Greenville BUILD Project will move to its second phase next week when it begins construction on West Fifth Street just west of downtown.

West Fifth Street between Ward Street and South Pitt Street is scheduled to close to traffic beginning Tuesday, April 2, to allow for construction of a traffic circle at its intersection with Albemarle Avenue and Elizabeth Street. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately 18 months.

Motorists will be detoured onto Ward Street, West Fourth Street, and Pitt Street. They are also encouraged to take advantage of the 10th Street Connector via West 14th Avenue and Evans Street to avoid the area.

The closure follows the completion of the first phase of the project, which saw the construction of a traffic circle on West Fifth Street at its intersection with Tyson Street and West 14th Avenue. That area of West Fifth Street is scheduled to reopen to traffic Tuesday.
