GREENVILLE, N.C. — The intersection of East Fifth Street and Reade Street is expected to be closed to motorists beginning next week as part of construction on the BUILD Project.
The anticipated closure date is Monday, May 6. It is expected to be in place for approximately 4-5 months to allow for improvements that include wider sidewalks, brick crosswalks, site furnishings, and street trees. It is part of the $42-million Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Project that began in August 2023.
Businesses along Reade Street and East Fifth Street will continue to be open to customers. Additionally, the City of Greenville is suspending parking enforcement in the downtown area until further notice.
Signs will be posted to detour westbound motorists onto Jarvis Street and East 4th Street, while eastbound motorists will be directed to Cotanche Street. Northbound traffic on Reade Circle will be detoured onto East 5th Street. Pedestrians will be detoured to South Holly Street, West 4th Street, and Cotanche Street.
