CA STATE TREASURER'S HOUSING LISTENING TOUR
O
n Thursday, BIA-LAV Director of Government Affairs, Diana Coronado, participated in Treasure Fiona Ma's listening tour on California’s affordable housing crisis. The Treasurer's Office gathered ideas and feedback from the public about how her office can help increase the supply of affordable housing. As the leading voice on residential development, BIA spoke about legislation that has led to increased costs and regulatory barriers, which has decreased the supply of housing. BIA-LAV discussed the need to consider legislation that reduces those challenges. We look forward to partnering with the Treasurer and stakeholders to work towards housing affordability in California.

LONG BEACH STATE OF THE CITY
On Tuesday, BIA staff attended Long Beach's annual State of the City address by Mayor Robert Garcia. The Mayor touted the City's reduced crime record, multi-year balanced budget and the need to propel development by increasing affordable housing. Unfortunately, a tool that was explicitly mentioned to drive affordable housing was the intent to adopt an inclusionary zoning policy. As the leading voice of residential development, BIA-LAV has been at the forefront of this discussion and will continue to work with staff to make sure that the concerns of our members are being heard.

BIA-LAV ASKS LA CITY PLANNING COMMISSION TO APPROVE CASP AMENDMENT TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The Los Angeles City Cornfield Arroyo Specific Plan (CASP) was approved in 2013. Unfortunately, due to interpretation of an Affordable Housing provision, the current version of CASP has not produced a single housing unit, market-rate or affordable. Therefore, LA Councilman Gil Cedillo authored a motion to amend the CASP to clarify certain affordable housing provisions. City Planning Commission approved the motion.
