FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO CALIFORNIA'S HOMELESS & HOUSING CRISES
This week the President of the United States responded to California's letter requesting more funding for homeless and affordable housing. The President appointed Housing & Urban Development Secretary, Ben Carson, to respond to the inquiry with a denial. The three-page letter cited, among other topics:
  1. The State’s overregulation of the housing market leading to high prices;
  2. The fact that almost half of the United States unsheltered homeless people live in California and the State’s homeless population is more than twice as high as expected even when controlling for mild temperature and high home prices; and,
  3. California’s inability to properly steward taxpayer funding.
The administration ended the letter by offering help once the State makes strides handling its local issues by making hard choices to address the catastrophe. View the letter here
