A WEEK WITH BIA
BIA-LAV LEADERSHIP LUNCH WITH LOS ANGELES COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
BIA-LAV hosted their Leadership Lunch Series with Mark Pestrella, the Los Angeles County Public Works Director. Our members discussed the Department’s fire rebuild efforts, stormwater regulations, Measure W, and updates on building and safety for County projects. Thank you to the Director and the Department for hosting us at their office and facilitating a content-rich dialogue with our members.
2019 ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS
This week, our members got the chance to learn and network at the Local Peasant in Woodland Hills. The BIA-LAV All Subs and Purchasing Agents Committee hosted an educational event to review 2019 builder energy efficiency standards. BIA-LAV member, DuctTesters, provided information on the California Building Code, Title 24, and green building practices.
HOUSING SPOTLIGHT
“Griffin Assisted Living Center” by Griffin FIne Living broke construction in Simi Valley. Griffin says, “The project calls for the construction of an alluring, high end 97¬unit assisted living facility at the corner of Cochran Street and Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley CA. In addition, we’re taking this old ’80s Mediterranean¬style, 30¬plus-year old center and putting new life into it with a new design, revitalizing it with a modern village look. Griffin Fine Living is under development with multiple senior living communities in California, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut and Georgia." Learn more, here .
ADVOCACY IN ACTION
HOUSING DIALOGUE WITH LA COUNTY SUPERVISOR MARK RIDLEY-THOMAS
On Wednesday, BIA-LAV attended the Business Federation's Roundtable event. We had the opportunity to discuss housing cost concerns with Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. In regards to housing affordability, he stated, “I just want to have a conversation with people who are willing to provide meaningful solutions.” We appreciate the opportunity to have an open dialogue on an issue as impactful as housing in the County.
