LA COUNTY AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRESERVATION ORDINANCE
In September of 2019 the County of Los Angeles Department of Regional Planning (DRP) released four ordinance drafts related to the housing initiatives that were recommended from last year's Affordable Housing Action Plan (AHAP). The ordinances included theAffordable Housing Preservation Ordinance. On Wednesday, DRP held their first stakeholder working group to gather input on the the applicability, right to purchase options, alternatives and other feedback related to the ordinance.
According to the County, the goal of this ordinance is to maintain the supply of lower-cost housing to avoid displacement of tenants or the loss of affordable units due to new development. The preservation policies will work hand in hand with related efforts around rent stabilization and tenant protections. BIA-LAV has been deeply engaged with the AHAP initiatives, participating in working groups, testifying at hearings and providing comment letters. We will be thoroughly reviewing this ordinance and soliciting feedback from our membership to develop a comment letter. Please send feedback to BIA-LAV, Director of Government Affairs, Diana Coronado.
