OPENING DEVOTION

Dear Beloved Church Family,

As we approach Mother’s Day, our hearts are drawn to the many women who have shaped our lives with love, strength, and grace. Some we call mom, grandma, aunt, mentor, or friend. Some have raised children, others have nurtured communities, classrooms, and hearts. Some are with us still, while others live on in memory and legacy. We are grateful for them all.

Mother’s Day is an occasion to reflect on and honor the invaluable love that mothers and mother-figures provide through their patience, endurance, creativity, and nurturing.  Their love is often the first glimpse we get of God’s own heart: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you,” says the Lord (Isaiah 66:13).

But we also recognize that this day can carry mixed emotions. For some, it brings deep joy. For others, it stirs grief, longing, or complicated memories. You are not alone.  The church is a place where every story matters and every person is valued, whether you are a mother, have lost a mother, wishes to be one, or are on a different path.

In our current sermon series, A New Creation, we are reminded by Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that “if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” Mother’s Day beautifully echoes this promise. Through God’s love and often through the nurturing of faithful women in our lives—we are continually being made new.

So, this week, let us give thanks for the women who have blessed our lives. Let us speak love while we can. Let us honor the past and embrace the present. And may we live into the resurrection truth that love has the power to heal, to renew, and to make all things new.

A Mother’s Day Blessing

May God bless the mothers who gave us life,

the ones who raised us,

and those who showed us love when we needed it most.

May you feel God’s comfort if this day brings sorrow,

God’s peace if this day stirs longing,

and God’s joy if this day brings celebration.

And may each of us live with grace,

nurturing one another in the Spirit of Christ,

whose love makes all things new.

Amen.

With love and gratitude,

Rev. Jennifer Cho

If you would like to make a monetary donation to support the mission team traveling to Tanzania, please give it to BUMC. Thank you for your support and prayers!

Guidelines for Submitting Announcements

To help us maintain clear communication and a smooth worship experience, please follow these guidelines when submitting announcements:

  • For Worship Service Announcements (Verbal): Please inform Rev. Jennifer at least one week in advance if you would like your announcement included during the worship service. Our services typically last about one hour, and we strive to maintain a thoughtful and well-paced flow. Only church-related or conference-related events will be included. Last-minute announcements may require us to adjust or remove other planned elements. Please keep your announcement brief and clear—include the event name, time, and purpose.
  • For Worship Bulletin Announcements: Please submit your announcement by Thursday so the church office can include it on the back page of the bulletin. Due to limited space, we only include church-related and conference-related events. The bulletin is printed on Friday morning.
  • For the Weekly Connection E-News: Submit your request at least one week in advance. We generally include only in-church events. If your announcement is for a non-church event, it will be reviewed by Rev. Jennifer for final approval.
  • For the Bulletin Boards: Flyers should be emailed or brought to the church at least one week in advance. We have bulletin boards located near the church office, and flyers will remain posted until the day of the event. Please contact the church office to have your flyer posted.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
