Consortium convenes Headwaters Tech Hub Leadership Summit across four cities in Montana
|
|
|
|
Last week, the Headwaters Tech Hub Leadership Summit brought together more than 40 public, private, and academic leaders from across Montana for 3-days of strategy and structure discussions, hands-on technology experiences, networking, and relationship building. The Montana Department of Commerce, Montana University System, the Montana Department of Labor & Industry, and the Montana Chamber are working in anticipation of the U.S. Department of Commerce and Economic Development Administration’s Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs competition Phase 1 Designation and strategy grant awards to be announced later this Fall.
Panel discussions, on-site tours of facilities, and receptions took place in Billings --> Columbus --> Livingston --> Manhattan --> and Bozeman.
Work on the next summit in January is already underway. Stay tuned for details.

National Manufacturing Day is this week: FRI, OCT 6

|
|
Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) is celebrated nationally on the first Friday in October, this year, Friday, October 6th. To celebrate the impact of the manufacturing industry on Montana's economy and the need for a skilled workforce to provide for its continued growth, the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center and private industry are showcasing their facilities to students across the state to connect them with career paths. The Montana Chamber and Montana Chamber Foundation are also co-hosting events in Missoula on October 5 and in Livingston on October 12.

These hands-on experiences demonstrate the latest technology and equipment, encourage workforce readiness skills and prepare our students for careers in the 21st century.
Community Open House: Business and Education Leader Connection

Community leaders are invited to play with the machinery themselves, and to experience what the local students learned. Then the Montana Chamber will host a discussion on industry needs and programs that are creating new career opportunities in Montana.

The Montana University System partners with Education Design Lab to develop and scale skills-forward, short-term credentials in high-demand fields.
On September 20, the Education Design Lab (the Lab), the Montana Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE), and Montana’s public two-year colleges,announced the launch of a new initiative to expand the college-to-career pipeline in Montana. Montana’s “Year to Career” Initiative will bring colleges, employers, learners, and local stakeholders together to collaboratively design skills-focused educational pathways to expand opportunities for Montanans and meet the state’s growing workforce needs.

2023 Annual Report filing deadlines approaching

The Montana Chamber and Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen want to remind members that there is still time to file your 2023 Annual Report with the state if you haven't done so already. The fee for 2023 is $20.
Upcoming deadlines for filing:
- Nov. 1st – Out-of-state businesses
- Dec. 1st – Montana businesses
Secretary Jacobsen also recently announced that 2024 filing fees will be waived for all Montana businesses.

Annually, the Montana Chamber of Commerce commissions the Business-Base (B-Base), a poll of registered Montana voters, to solicit feedback on pressing policy issues impacting business. While the comprehensive B-Base covers a lot of ground, the Montana Chamber recognizes tax structure and use as a top priority. Moore Information Group will present a detailed look into voters' views on property taxes, personal tax income, and statewide general sales tax and how this feedback can be used by policymakers to shape our future tax structure at the Montana Chamber's Annual Membership Meeting.
