Welcoming Chamber Staff
Abdus Samad, Government Relations & Policy Manager
Abdus will play a significant role in leading the Vaughan Chamber's policy research and the development of initiatives to further the interests of our members.
Abdus holds an Honours Bachelors of Art in political science from the University of Toronto. He has experience working on many political campaigns, including party leadership bids and working as a Political Staffer at the office of a party leader. He has also worked in Ottawa as a Legislative Assistant for a Parliamentary Secretary and a Member of Parliament.
Before starting at the Vaughan Chamber, he established a Government Relations function for the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce where he focused on lobbying all four levels of government. Though his experience with business concerns has previously focused on Newmarket, Abdus is looking forward to using the joint collaboration between both Chambers to highlight business issues on behalf of the almost 1,800 business owners represented across both organizations. "Business issues often get sidelined when it comes to the development of government legislation and policy so I'm excited to be working on behalf of the business community in Vaughan and Newmarket," he says, noting that representing two of the largest business organizations in York Region will allow for increased opportunity to meet with elected officials and senior bureaucrats to address business concerns in York Region.
Abdus's role will also involve strengthening relationships with key community leaders and partners.
Look for more updates on our advocacy efforts via our website and e-newsletters.
