In the start of the New Year, BXDA staff have been connecting with the Bronx community and listening to their concerns, as well as pursuing justice. 

From major trial convictions to our Reentry fair, we are working hard to ensure that the Bronx becomes a safer place for everyone.

DA Clark

On January 4, District Attorney Clark took the oath of office for her third term. DA Clark was sworn in by Bronx County Clerk Ischia Bravo. She was accompanied by Chief of Staff Odalys Alonso, Chief Assistant District Attorney Derek Lynton, and her Executive Assistant Evangeline Vargas.

We proudly celebrate Senior Investigative Counsel James Goward for receiving the 2023 Thomas E. Dewey Medal from the New York City Bar Association. The Dewey Medal is given to an outstanding prosecutor in each of the city’s five District Attorney’s Offices and in the Office of the City’s Special Narcotics Prosecutor. In April 2023, Goward secured an indictment against three contractors in the first Bronx case charging manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in a construction site death. He has spent more than two decades serving people of the Bronx and has earned this honor.

Justice for Brandon Hendricks

On January 29, Najhim Luke was found guilty of first-degree Manslaughter for the FATAL shooting of teenage basketball star Brandon Hendricks in June 2020. Since the death of her son, Eve Hendricks has been at the forefront of ending gun violence in the Bronx, attending countless rallies and marches. Luke will be sentenced in March.

Jury Convicts Man for Gun Possession

On January 31, Dante Anderson was sentenced to 15 years in prison for second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Raymond Bruce. A jury convicted the defendant on September 27, 2023, for a 2021 incident in which the defendant drove wildly on the Grand Concourse to evade police and threw a loaded 9-mm pistol out his vehicle’s window, then crashed into several parked cars.

On January 22, 2024, The Bronx District Attorney’s Office launched data dashboards on our website which provide historical as well as current information on prosecution trends, and allow users to focus on specific charges, violent crimes, demographics and other data points. Check out our data dashboards here. 

On January 30, our Office held a Reentry Resource Fair in the Bronx River Houses for people returning to the Bronx community from incarceration, and the community at large. Nonprofit organizations helped sharpen interviewing skills, revamped resumes, and provided resources for health and housing. About 173 people participated in the event and eight people received job offers.

On Jan 3, 2024, District Attorney Clark welcomed 60 new NYPD Police Officers to patrol our vibrant Bronx community in an orientation at Fordham University. She encouraged the rookies to build positive relationships in the neighborhoods they will serve.

On Jan 20, 2024, District Attorney Clark was a panelist at the River Park Towers town hall. She addressed their safety concerns and plans to work with the NYPD to keep the neighborhood safe.

On January 22, District Attorney Clark was present at Mayor Adams’ town hall in Co-op City. She listened and addressed Bronx residents’ concerns regarding public safety, youth programming and more resources to improve quality of life.

On January 9, 2024, District Attorney Clark attended Governor Hochul’s State of the State address. She looks forward to continuing working with Gov. Hochul to improve safety and quality of life for Bronx residents.
