BaDerech: On Our Path (Grades K-5)

Grades K-3

Students in grades K-3 will attend their learning programs for a weekly two-hour session in person either on Sundays (8:45–10:45am or 11:15 am–1:15 pm) OR on Tuesdays (3:30–5:30 pm). This year, students will study foundational narratives from our traditional texts, sing new and classic songs in music sessions, and actively engage with simple Hebrew vocabulary through games and activities in Hebrew Through Movement. Throughout the year, students will explore Judaic content through a variety of different modality lenses, including Visual Arts, STEM, Performing Arts, and Literary Arts. Each session will begin with a spirited Assembly led by Cantor Josh that all families are invited to attend along with their students.

Grades 4-5

Students in grades 4-5 will attend their learning programs weekly on Sunday mornings OR Monday afternoon for a two-hour session in person. Next year, students will be engaged in learning through their choice of modalities, including visual arts, STEM, performing arts, and cooking. The curriculum will focus on Torah text and the meaning, values, and rituals that we learn from the Torah. In addition, students in grades 4-5 are required to enroll in either in person (Sunday) or online B’Mitzvah Hebrew program.

Hebrew (Grades 4-5)

The Hebrew program at TBE has two elements: small group learning and 1:1 learning, with the overall goal of developing students’ Hebrew decoding skills and preparing each student to be comfortable with key components of our Shabbat services, and to empower them to lead the congregation in prayer when they become B’Mitzvah.

Next year, we will offer both in-person and virtual B’Mitzvah Hebrew sessions. The in-person Hebrew classes will be 45 minutes long and offered only on Sundays, in coordination with Sunday BaDerech sessions. Online Hebrew classes will be 30 minutes long and offered throughout the week (check registration for details).

In addition, all students regardless of their class choice, will schedule with their teacher an online 10 minutes 1:1 session once a week. During the 1:1 sessions, the teacher will work with your child in a way that meets your child’s specific needs and to reinforce the group Hebrew session content. Please note: The Hebrew schedule in the registration form reflects ONLY the small group sessions. Your child/ren’s teacher will contact you in the fall to schedule 1:1 sessions.

Class Placement and Lottery

We will strive to honor all placement requests, but we cannot guarantee either that we will be able to place your child in the preferred class or session, or that your child will be placed in a class with a specific friend. We consider a range of issues, including, but not limited to, gender balance, learning styles, towns in which students live, and class size. Our ultimate goal is to ensure the best possible learning environment for every student. If requests for a class or session reach maximum capacity, a lottery will be held from all complete registrations received on or before 5:00 pm on Friday, June 24. Registrations received after the deadline will be placed in classes after all on-time registrations have been placed. Thank you for your timely return of materials.

Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to the registration process and your timely completion of our materials. Working together, we will be able to finalize class placement and notify families to facilitate making plans for the fall in a timely manner. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

We are so excited to begin a year of innovation, creativity, and deep connection. Click here to begin your registration for 5783!
