Ro-Minis are back! Cute and compact, Ro-Minis (baby romaine hearts) pack the crunch of iceberg and sweet  flavor of romaine into one small, tightly enveloped head. About the size of Belgian endive, this baby romaine is more petite than others like it on the market. Filet and grill, or use the leaves as cups or wraps for your choice of dressing and toppings. Its leaves hold up well to heat and all kinds of dressing so feel free to get creative with this unique lettuce! Call your sales for more details and availability.

Sometimes it's best to keep it simple - with an item as beautiful as baby romanesco, not a lot of prep is required for a delicious appetizer or side dish. Simply cut them in half, drizzle with olive oil and roast. Garnish with with tangy balsamic and sea salt for a stunning display as seen below.

Beets Among Top Superfoods for 2019

Big news on one of our favorite root veggies, and we're not missing a BEET! Pollock Communications and Today's Dietitian surveyed more than 1,300 registered dietitian nutritionists on which foods consumers will favor as healthiest in 2019. We are happy to say that beets were among the top 10! Beets are a great source of fiber, folate, and vitamin C, not to mention they may help lower blood pressure. Babé Farms offers a colorful profusion of baby beets including red, gold, and striped. #NewYearNewBeet

Weather Update

The rainy weather seems to be behind us for the time being, however, you can see some of the damage done to our fields below. There's no rain in the forecast for the coming week and we're expecting temperatures in the high 60's to low 70's. We hope this upcoming favorable weather pattern will help improve quality on all items.

We are now offering Sell Sheets for individual items in our colorful and diverse line of specialty vegetables. Sell sheets are a great POS tool that provide quick bullet points describing the product as well as photos depicting its applications. Please keep in mind, we are currently in the process of creating sell sheets for each item and will distribute them as they become available.

Marissa Oliver Horton

The last couple months we've had the pleasure to work with Marissa Oliver Horton who we met at New York Produce Show. Learn more about Marissa below!

At 8 years old, Marissa Oliver Horton's parents finally relented and agreed that she could become a vegetarian. So began a 25 year journey of exploring nutrition and experimenting in the kitchen. Growing up in Woodstock New York, she was heavily influenced by many facets of art and holistic approaches to health. Carrying a little red Canon point and shoot around wherever she went, she captured the world around her. Spending most of her high school years in the darkroom and art classes, she continued exercising her creativity at Sarah Lawrence College. Spending time living in NYC and Los Angeles, as well as traveling, further expanded her culinary palate which influences many of the dishes she now creates. In 2009, she and her husband bought an old Victorian house in the Hudson Valley and put down roots; literally digging up the backyard and planting an extensive garden full of herbs to use in her cooking. Welcoming their daughter into their family only increased the focus on healthy eating and continued to perpetuate Marissa's recipe development. She scours farmers markets, local grocers and specialty shops on the hunt for spices, fresh herbs and unique colorful produce to use in the recipes she dreams up. Last spring, she found a way to marry her love of art and cooking in the creation of her Instagram page @morethangranola which inspired her to begin working on a cookbook. She looks forward to continuing her journey as a self-taught vegetarian chef, food stylist and photographer. Stay tuned!
