COMMUNITY NEWS
CCMC Identifies New Bank Partner

To improve service to homeowners, CCMC has identified the need for a more efficient and technologically advanced banking partner. As a result, our bank lockbox provider is changing from Pacific Western Bank (PWB) to Alliance Association Bank (AAB), effective July 2023. AAB provides services to over 35,000 community associations and over 1,000 management companies. We are confident that this change will result in faster and more efficient processing of assessment payments.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact our onsite team or our customer team to help you through the process.

Coexisting with Wildlife
The Babcock Ranch Community is surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful wild Florida, teeming with various wildlife species. Together, we can establish a positive human-wildlife coexistence awareness and understanding to live sustainably in ecological balance.

Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos has gathered great resources for coexisting with wildlife. These resources will help ensure we can peacefully share our space with the local nature. Check out her Coexisting with Wildlife brochure.
Wildlife Photo of the Week: Bald Eagle
National Emblem: A Bald Eagle resting on a pine tree branch at Sunset Lake.
Species: Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

Photographer: John Hutzler

Location: Sunset Lake

Christina's Take: Insights from Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos:

  • The national emblem of the United States since 1782, a spiritual symbol for natives, and with a remarkable conservation success story, the bald eagle is well-respected and breathtakingly regal.
  • This raptor became extremely rare during the mid-to-late 1900s because they were a victim of trapping, shooting, and poisoning and suffered from reproductive failures due to pesticides such as DDT. Once protected under the Endangered Species Act in 1978 and with the ban on DDT, their population began to recover to stability in 2007.
  • The bald eagle dwarfs other bird of prey species with females that have a wingspan of 7.2 ft and are larger than their male counterparts that have a wingspan of 6.4 ft.
  • An adult bald eagle is dark brown with a white head and tail, yellow bill, eyes, legs, and feet, while a juvenile bald eagle is mostly dark brown with dark brown eyes, gray or black bill, and some white patches or spots on its tail, belly, and underside of its wings. As juveniles begin to mature, they often lose the white on their bodies and begin to gain more white plumage on their head and tail. Did you know that the full adult plumage for bald eagles typically appears within their fifth year of life?!
  • Florida is one of the densest concentrations of nesting bald eagles in the U.S.
  • One of their courtship displays is when a male and female fly high into the sky, lock talons and cartwheel downward together towards the earth, only to break off at the last moment before colliding with the ground.
  • Bald eagles often harass osprey that has successfully captured prey with a mid-air dance of dogfighting until the osprey drops its fish for the eagle to snatch up and enjoy its stolen meal.
