Weed Control Squad Steps Up Eradication Efforts
Weed spraying is well underway at Babcock Ranch. Be patient: crews are using an eco-friendly product that takes up to a week to work.
Crews Use Eco-friendly Herbicides
It's summertime and weeds are doing their best to take advantage of the wetter and longer days.

In response, our landscape contractor, Brightview, has dispatched three additional weed control specialists to take on the challenge. You’ll see them spraying throughout the community as they seek out problem areas.

“Weeds are always worse in the summer,” said Babcock Ranch Residential Association Operations Manager Ryan Lazenby. “The daily rain and high temperatures cause them to grow quickly, so we’re stepping up efforts to keep them under control.”

Please be patient as the crews tackle this perennial problem. Be assured they are using eco-friendly herbicides that are safe for people and pets. You may notice these products work more slowly than toxic weed-killing agents. Once treated, it may take up to a week for weeds to be eradicated.

As always, please contact us if you become aware of a particularly bad outbreak of weeds.
Crossing Guard Appreciation
Second graders from BNS present thank-you notes to Community Patrol Crossing Guards Cynthia Scott, Sophia Wonderlin, Sandra Manzano, Beth Moulton and Brian Aldridge.
Showing Their Gratitude
With the school year coming to a close, members of Babcock Neighborhood School's three second-grade classes surprised their crossing guards last week with a giant handmade card and boxes of donuts.

"It was their idea," said Kari Lewtor, director of curriculum and instruction. "They came to us and asked whether we thought it was a good idea and we said 'yes!'" Also behind the effort were teachers Halie Priest, Lacie Batovsky and Ana Zapata.

Several dozen students worked together to create the card for the Babcock Ranch Community Patrol members. Click here for viewers.
Wildlife Photo of the Week: Roseate Spoonbills
Resident Kevin Sanders captured this group of Roseate Spoonbills near Sunset Lake. Rarely seen in most of the U.S., this bird is considered a threatened species by the State of Florida.
Birdwatchers Flock to SW Florida to See These Spectacular Creatures

This week's Wildlife Photo of the Week features Roseate Spoonbills, photographed near Sunset Lake by resident Kevin Sanders.

Here's how the Cornell Lab of Ornithology describes this colorful species: The flamboyant Roseate Spoonbill looks like it came straight out of a Dr. Seuss book with its bright pink feathers, red eye staring out from a partly bald head, and giant spoon-shaped bill. Groups sweep their spoonbills through shallow fresh or salt waters snapping up crustaceans and fish.

If you've recently taken a shareable wildlife photo at Babcock Ranch, we'd love to showcase it here for all to enjoy. If yours is chosen, you'll receive a $10 gift card from a Babcock Ranch business such as Publix or Slater's.
