New Video Series Showcases Sustainability Practices
Dr. Jennifer Languell hosts a new video series on sustainability practices at Babcock Ranch.
At Babcock Ranch, you hear a lot about sustainability. Unless you know what you’re looking for, you may not appreciate how sustainable development initiatives contribute to the overall quality of life in our new hometown.

So what does it take to be named the first, and only, community to achieve Platinum Certification from the Florida Green Building Coalition? Find the answer to that question and many more in the new video series hosted by Dr. Jennifer Languell, the green building and sustainable land development consultant for Babcock Ranch (and also a fellow resident.)
Aspiring Chefs, Teachers and Mermaids Graduate from Preschool
Forty-seven preschoolers recently participated in the Bloom Academy graduation, joined by an audience of family and friends.

“Some of the children had been with us since 2019,” said Health and Safety Director Bekah Rubio. “During the ceremony, each child was asked what they wanted to be when they grow up. We had police officers, chefs, mermaids, garbage truck workers, chiefs of police, and teachers, to name a few.”

Staff members in attendance included Executive Director Jackie Bruner, Ms. Marcy and Ms. Maria (Orange Owls 1), Ms. Jessica, Ms. Emily and Ms. Rachel (Orange Owls 2) and Ms. Marcy and Ms. Jessica (Orange Owls 3). “We not only learned our ABCs but we learned how to make lifelong friends,” said Bekah.

Water Utility Takes Top Awards
Babcock Ranch Water Utilities won three first-place awards for outstanding accomplishments in water reclamation, operational performance, and safety from the Florida Water Environment Association. The awards recognize the BRWU wastewater treatment facility’s excellence in transforming wastewater into reusable water for irrigation.

Operated by Town & Country Utilities, BRWU received the first-place Earle B. Phelps Award for maintaining the highest removal of major pollution-causing components from treated wastewater, the Safety Award for its stellar safety program, and the Municipal Utility Operational Performance Excellence Award. BRWU also received the Earle B. Phelps Award in 2019.

Pictured above holding the awards is Nathaniel Mastroeni, operations manager for BRWU/Town & Country Utilities.

Families Flock to Summer Fun Day
More than 300 residents came out for the Babcock Ranch Family Fun Day event last weekend to kick off the summer season.

Big Birds of Babcock Ranch

Prizes for this week's Wildlife Photo of the Week go to two residents who recently photographed Sandhill Cranes in our community — perhaps two perspectives of the same bird!

The photo on the left was captured by Sarah Stanek in her yard, while the other, which shows a Sandhill Crane in flight, was sent in by Kenneth Peterson. (One of our staff members also captured video of a crane flying over Lake Timber, and a pair of them strolling down Curry Preserve Drive.)

This impressively large bird can stand up to 47 inches tall with a wingspan of 78 inches. Learn more from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

If you've recently taken a shareable wildlife photo at Babcock Ranch, we'd love to showcase it here for all to enjoy. If yours is chosen, you'll receive a $10 gift card from a Babcock Ranch business such as Publix or Slater's.
