New Vehicle Strengthens Community Partnership

Our Community Patrol officers are getting a little closer to residents this week with the introduction of a new patrol vehicle.

"We recently added a new golf cart with patrol insignia to make us more visible as we move around the neighborhoods," said Babcock Ranch Community Patrol Director Bill Pinho. "This vehicle really brings us up close and personal with the people of the Babcock Ranch and helps strengthen partnerships with our residents."
Residents Mark Holiday with Parade
Dozens of Babcock Ranch residents drove decorated golf carts through Founder's Square last weekend as part of the community's Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade.

For more than a half-hour, there was a continuous stream of parading vehicles, coordinated by Lifestyle Manager Aaron Pankau.

"We had about 70 carts in total," he said. "It was a great neighborhood experience. Some residents tossed candy to the onlookers and everyone seemed to enjoy it!"

Wildlife Photo of the Week: Florida Softshell Turtle
Resident Ethan Hoffman captured this Florida Softshell Turtle with his camera recently at Crescent Cove. Ethan spotted this one attempting to climb onto a curb while crossing the road.
This Native Species Has a Powerful Bite

This week's Wildlife Photo of the Week features a Florida Softshell Turtle, photographed at Crescent Cove by resident Ethan Hoffman.

According to Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos, the Florida Softshell Turtle is a native species that spends most of its time in the water, preferring areas with muddy or sandy bottoms to conceal itself.

If you see one crossing a street (as this one was), it's OK to help them if conditions are safe. Be careful, though, because they can bite! If you do help one across, move it only in the direction that it was heading and release it once it is safe to do so. To learn more about the Florida Softshell Turtle, click here.

If you've recently taken a shareable wildlife photo at Babcock Ranch, we'd love to showcase it here for all to enjoy. If yours is chosen, you'll receive a $10 gift card from a Babcock Ranch business such as Publix or Slater's.
