Holiday Weekend at Babcock Ranch
Looking for a great place to spend the holiday weekend? Great news: You're living in it!

Babcock Ranch has you covered this Independence Day with family-friendly events and activities for all ages.

  • SATURDAY: Head to Founder's Square for food trucks and live music beginning at 5 p.m. At 9 p.m., a spectacular laser light show will illuminate the sky over Founder's Square. Watch a preview here.
  • MONDAY: Get your running shoes on! Our Red, White & Run Road Race gets underway at 7:30 a.m. at Founder's Square.
  • MONDAY: The always-popular Golf Cart Parade rolls through the community beginning at 10 a.m. at — you guessed it — Founder's Square. We encourage residents to line the streets and show support for the participants!

All events are free. Have a safe weekend as we all say "Happy birthday, America!"
HOA Office Closed Monday

In observance of Independence Day, the Babcock Ranch Residential Association office will be closed on Monday, July 4.

We wish you and your family a safe holiday. Please note that our Community Patrol officers will continue to provide 24-hour patrol of the community through the weekend.

Trash Pickup Will be Tuesday

Due to the holiday, trash pickup for all areas is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5. Recycling pickup will be Thursday, as usual.
Fireworks Guidelines for Residents
Florida state law permits residents to use fireworks on their own property during the following holidays: New Year's Eve and July 4th. Fireworks are NOT permitted on ISD property.

During the Independence Day holiday, please be mindful and considerate of your neighbors and the community in which you live. When lighting fireworks, use a stable, non-flammable base such as concrete or asphalt.

Safety Reminders

  • Don't try to set up fireworks on the grass where they could fall over or possibly be propelled back at you.
  • Make sure there's a water source nearby, such as a bucket of water or charged garden hose.
  • The person lighting the fireworks should use eye protection and long sleeve clothing or a type of fabric that doesn't burn.
  • Look after your pets and keep them safe.
  • Remove firework casings and debris from the street.
Hydrant Switchover Work Underway
You may have noticed some new fire hydrants in the community recently. Over the next few months, utility crews will continue replacing hydrants throughout Babcock Ranch as we switch from fireplugs that supply non-potable water to new ones that use potable water.

Hydrants with non-potable water are easily identified by their violet color, while the new ones with potable water are yellow.

Excavation in utility easement areas done as part of the switchover will be repaired by landscaping crews. This work is being done at no cost to residents.
Trail Closure Reminder
As you enjoy the holiday weekend at Babcock Ranch, keep in mind that two of our hiking trails are temporarily closed due to construction by Florida Power & Light.

The affected areas include a section of Palmetto Path near Sunset Lake and all of the Chain of Lakes Trail. There are signs marking the closed areas.

We appreciate your patience and support. We'll keep you updated as the project continues.
New HOA Facebook Page
Thank you for finding, liking and following our new Facebook page, which went live two weeks ago. If you’ve followed us on Facebook in the past and haven't done so yet, please take a moment to follow the new page at Facebook.com/BabcockRanchHOA.

We remind you that this is the only official source of information on Facebook from the Babcock Ranch Residential Association. Several days ago, we became aware of a fake Facebook post on a non-official Facebook page that purported to promote a craft fair in mid-July. The HOA has organized no such event.

Watch our official page for information about upcoming events, photo albums from past events, news about community activities and timely resident information.
Wildlife Photo of the Week: Wood Stork & Snowy Egret
A wood stork (Mycteria americana) and snowy egret (egretta thula) at Babcock Ranch.
Birds of Slightly Different Feathers

This week's Wildlife Photo of the Week features two birds — a wood stork and a snowy egret. Resident Becky Hairsine caught the pair dining together at an unspecified location in Babcock Ranch.

According to Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos, both of these wading bird species are protected by the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act under Florida's Endangered and Threatened Species Rule.

"Both species forage for food in a variety of wetlands including several here at Babcock Ranch," she said. "Two very distinctive features that will help to identify these birds are
the featherless head and neck of the wood stork with gray scaly skin and the bright yellow feet in contrast to the black legs of the snowy egret."

If you've recently taken a shareable wildlife photo at Babcock Ranch, we'd love to showcase it here for all to enjoy. If yours is chosen, you'll receive a $10 gift card from a Babcock Ranch business such as Publix or Slater's. Get contest details here.
