For Your Safety, Stay Away from Construction Areas
Your safety is our priority. Do not stray into active construction areas. It's especially important to instruct young children in your household to stay away from construction zones, which may be attractive to their curious nature.

There are many active construction sites in the community and residents are prohibited from accessing them on foot or by vehicle. No exceptions are permitted.

Violators are subject to prosecution under applicable state and local laws.

We appreciate your cooperation.
Business Event Set for Hatchery
BIZ@BabcockRanch presents a Small Business Forum at noon Tuesday, July 12, at the Hatchery at 42881 Lake Babcock Drive.

Attendees will hear speakers from the SBDC and SCORE (Small Business Development Center and Service Corp of Retired Executives) who will share information about free support/mentoring services for small business entrepreneurs.

The program will include a brainstorming session for establishing an ongoing series of "small business help desk" events here at Babcock Ranch. The goal is to connect businesses with mentors to guide them in areas where they need support.

The event is free and open to residents who already have or are thinking of launching their own business, as well as those who are interested in mentoring business entrepreneurs.

Wildlife Photo of the Week: Osprey

Airborne Angler Dives for Dinner

A spectacular shot of an osprey named Oscar eating a meal near Sunset Lake is this week's Wildlife Photo of the Week. Captured by Babcock Ranch resident and regular photo contributor Richard Kinley, the majestic raptor is seen often in his Lake Timber neighborhood. "I've given him a name, 'Oscar,'" he said. "His nest is on top of a power pole by the bridge. This photo was taken at Sunset Lake."

According to Babcock Ranch Environmental Mitigation Manager Christina Kontos, an osprey’s diet consists mainly of fish. "They can dive from up to 100 feet in the air, feet-first into the water to capture prey with their strong talons."

She said that while taking these high-speed plunges, ospreys can close their nostrils as they grab their prey. "They prefer to carry their fish headfirst to make their flight as aerodynamic as possible!"

If you've recently taken a shareable wildlife photo at Babcock Ranch, we'd love to showcase it here for all to enjoy. If yours is chosen, you'll receive a $10 gift card from a Babcock Ranch business such as Publix or Slater's. Get contest details here.
