Nutrition Report

The Nutrition Program continues to grow daily as we serve hundreds of orphaned children. Victoria, our Mozambican nurse, welcomes each new baby & caregiver with a personal interview. Victoria grew up next to the clinic.  She is able to speak with the caregivers in their tribal language as well as Portuguese. As the caregiver shares the babies’ stories, we obtain a more accurate understanding of each child’s situation.  The more we understand what is happening at “home”, the more we understand who and what is impacting the health of the child.

We then teach the caregivers how to properly feed and care for the babies with the nutritionally dense meals we provide. This allows each child a better opportunity to thrive rather than simple survive or perish.

An integral part of this follow up is the database that we have created. This information allows us to examine trends. The stats help us dive deeper in our quest to serve these children better.  We can then track their weights as they recover from severe malnutrition. We then celebrate their transition into a healthy weight, “life and life abundant.”

Spiritual Training

We work with the clinic staff spiritually, as well. Through various trainings and prayer we impart biblical truths and strengthen their identity in Christ.

As the Body of Christ, we start the day with testimonies, sharing burdens and praying together for our surrounding community and Mozambique.  This precious time has allowed us to not only set the tone for the day with the Lord, but also allows us to bear one another’s burdens, and strengthen our bonds as followers of Christ.

Cross Training

As part of life here in Mozambique, staff take month long holidays.  We have been cross training the staff to be able to fill in for one another.  This allows them to collaborate, communicate and become more unified in the approach to the services they provide as they train one another.

Special Needs Program

The Special Needs Program is in full swing.  We have special classes to address the issue of malnutrition with the caregivers.  These children often lack the muscles to sit up while being fed, so we introduce the caregivers to feeding methods and educate them on the importance of the children's posture.

Public Health Initiative

Our Public Health initiative has been teaching on the importance of handwashing.  Here in Mozambique, life is lived outside in nature. Basic sanitation and handwashing can often be overlooked which results in a higher incidence in preventable illnesses.  The staff have been working diligently to impart this information with caregivers to help curb unnecessary illnesses.

Points for Prayer:

  • Supply chains to open up and remain open for items we need in the clinic.
  • The caregivers and children in the Special Needs Program respond well to the training.
  • The medical system discovers the compassion of Jesus.
  • Our staff will continue to grow in their identity in Jesus.

Is there anything we can pray for you?

Thank you for all of your support!
