February 2019
Photo of the Month
In January we got our first glimpse of our new baby joey! Mama Scooter has been taking good care of her little boy in this cold weather, and they are staying toasty warm under the heat lamps in the kangaroo barn. Check out our Instagram page for an adorable video of him jumping back into Scooter's pouch!

Cash Cow

As of Feb. 1, 2019, our CA$H COW Contest has been discontinued.

In 2018, we were forced to change our capping system, and subsequently, our milk jugs. Our new jugs are more opaque now. We have discovered that writing the winning numbers on the outside of the jugs, underneath the label, is now difficult to see from the inside of the jug. We had one winner in November and zero in December and January, leading us to believe that customers are unable to see the winning marks. The label cannot be easily removed by the consumer, making that method ineffective as well.

Unfortunately, any other methods we brainstormed were not good solutions, leading us to discontinue the contest. We appreciate everyone who loved to play the game, and would not rule out beginning the contest again if the opportunity arises.

Customer of the Month
Samuel Shull and fiancee Mary Wilson
The February Customer of the Month is  Samuel Shull of Waterloo.

Sam first encountered Hansen's Dairy when taking a tour of the farm when he was in elementary school. Now he buys the products at our Waterloo store because he loves supporting local businesses.

"I started using your products when I came home from the military in August of 2017," Sam said. "My favorite product is your butter. I love how creamy and salty it is, and I really appreciate the freshness of your products. Coming in second is the ice cream. I love how many different flavors you have, especially the Coffee and the Key Lime Pie in the summer!"

Thanks, Sam! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Cow of the Month
Yes folks, it's cold out there! Here's Lynch, our February Cow of the Month, sporting some frosty whiskers during our recent record-setting cold.

Lynch was born March 12, 2016, and has had two calves in her lifetime. She milks about 100 pounds a day, which is really good for only having three teats that work (instead of all four).

Lynch is quite the character. She's the first to scramble into the holding pen in preparation to get milked, but then waits there and doesn't come through the milking parlor door until almost last. Who knows what goes on in the minds of our cows!

Cooking with Hansen's
Are you looking for a winning snack for the big game or a fun and easy appetizer for another winter get-together? Try these Super Nachos! They are super easy and super versatile.

I used Bongards American Cheese slices, but any sliced or shredded cheese will work. You can also swap out the spices for basil, oregano and fennel for more of an Italian flare. It can be a meal for a few or an appetizer for several.
