Coming Attractions
One of my favorite parts of the cinema experience is watching the “coming attractions.” Some of my usual reactions to the “coming to a theater near you” segments include:
•   “I think I just saw the plot of the whole movie.” Self-explanatory.
•   “Uh, no!” Probably a horror film or something that looks dumb.
•   “I have to see that on the big screen!” Most likely a block-buster action picture.
I have been reading the book of Deuteronomy in the morning office and much of it reads like coming attractions – things the people of Israel could expect when they entered the promised land. This week, Moses said, “You shall seek the place that the Lord your God will choose out of all your tribes as his habitation to put his name there. You shall go there. . . and you shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your households together, rejoicing in all the undertakings in which the Lord your God has blessed you” (Dt 12:5-7). Moses was referring to the eventual site of the temple, but for us, our “place” is St Francis. It is time to start moving back into the holy habits of worship and fellowship.

Below are a few of the “coming attractions.” Some of them have already “premiered” but we hope you will come and worship with us, “rejoicing in the blessings of the Lord.”

Many other wonderful things are coming to St Francis soon. We know the double transition of seeking a new Rector and coming out of COVID is difficult, but I believe great days are ahead for us. Please join us on the journey!

A message from Jude+
Last Sunday at St. Francis - June 27
It has come to my attention that some of you who read this enews may not have received or read the letter I sent announcing my leaving at the end of June.
It saddens me to even write that down, but my full-time position was for one year and that ends June 30. I have loved every second of my time here, but at 74 my ministry needs to be more flexible in order to be sustainable in doing God’s work. I have opportunities to free-lance in underserved churches in the diocese, and I have some standing offers to visit churches in other parts of the country to preach, teach and train their lectors.
I also long for more time with my daughters, grandsons, and aging siblings. I will have finished what I set out to do, but I will fight back tears as I leave. Thank you for all your love as you helped me grow into a priest! I will carry you with me always.
Jude+, 310-701-5966.
