Pastor's Update

Hi Parkway People --

It was good to be back with you this past Sunday after shutting things down for the freeze the week before.

I've been thinking about the unexpected truth of adapting and trying to make right decisions when forecasts and models had Sunday morning up in the air until Saturday evening — all in the course of a series on Belonging.

For all the ways we've explored Belonging in this first stretch of 2026, Belonging is not only the work of when we're together on Sunday mornings — Belonging is the work of being who we're called to be in the midst of a world that is often up in the air and unpredictable. And, when it comes time to make a call, the deciding factor is not a building or what is 'demanded' by one day of the week — but the 'why' behind the building and what that day points to and reminds us of. Maybe another way to say it is that we can be at peace missing a week here because we all know there's plenty of belonging work to do out there.

We still have two more weeks left in the Belonging series before we move into our Lent series called With. If Belonging has tackled belonging as we relate to each other, With will focus on how our spiritual practices should lead us, above any other thing into being with God. Too often a relationship with prayer can be mostly requests or trying to string together the right words — a relationship with Scripture can be intimidating, academic, or self-serving — a relationship with church can feel like benefits lay behind conformity. How can our practices and habits lead us instead towards connection, relationship, and with God?

Below are some ways you can plug into the work of Parkway — take a look at what's coming up!

Students Night Out February 10th - Students meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month upstairs in the Ministry Center to hang out, play games, share some food (6 - 8pm).

Men's Breakfast & Devotional will meet at 7am at Rudy's (20500 Southwest Fwy, Richmond, TX 77469) on February 10th and 24th. Start your day with laid back discussion and Coffee & Breakfast Tacos.

Parkway will host an Ash Wednesday service to mark the start of the season of Lent. We'll gather at 7pm in the Worship Center on Wednesday, February 18th for a service of music, reflection, and the imposition of ashes. Nursery childcare will be available.

Parkway Men's Ministry will host an event at Top Golf (Katy location) on Saturday, February 21st from 10am - 1pm. We'll gather for food (lunch included!) and fun that will all benefit Creative Dreams — one of our community ministry partners working with at-risk families in Fort Bend County. Men of Parkway — sign up now for this fun event that helps a good cause! Click HERE to sign up.

We originally scheduled an after church Chili Potluck on Sunday, February 8th — and then we realized we'd picked Super Bowl Sunday... We've rescheduled that Chili Potluck to Sunday, February 22nd after the 10.30 service! Save the date now and watch for more information to come as we get closer.

Kid's Day Camp (March 17th, 18th, & 19th, 9am-2pm), is our school break program for children ages 3 years old (*3 year olds must be currently enrolled in Parkway Day School threes class) thru 6th grade. We offer Bible based curriculum in a fun and safe environment! Each day has a Bible Story, Science, Craft, Games, and more! Click HERE for more info and to register.

Finally — It feels a LONG way off, but go ahead and save these important dates for Summer 2026!

  • VBS 2026 is scheduled for June 8th - 12th. Ages 4 - entering 5th grade are invited to Parkway for a week of fun. Registration will open March 25th.
  • Parkway will send children and students (completed 1st grade - 12th grade) to Summer Camp at Lakeview June 22 - 26.
  • UM Army, a construction based mission trip for high school students will take place July 19 - 25.

I'm looking forward to celebrating this season with you.

Justin
