HEAD OF SCHOOL MUSINGS
With guidance from Eagle County Public Health and Colorado Department of Public Health, we continue to plan for in-person, on-campus teaching and learning beginning Monday, August 17th. We’ve also had success with a trial run this summer holding a 6-week, in-person, on-campus Geometry class with 14
students (our average class size).

Our 1st Week Schedule will look like this:
Returning Students begin August 17th and have a preparation day on August 18th to get school supplies and finish summer assignments.
Transfer Students begin August 17th and have an afternoon Boot Camp.
Class of 2024 begins August 18th with a day specifically designed to acquaint 9th graders with each of their classes and provide some bonding opportunities. Freshmen parents should plan to attend a Freshmen Parent Orientation that morning from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.

I cannot express enough how hard our teachers have been working this summer to prepare for this new school year. In a normal summer, our teachers would have had more down time; however, this summer, faculty meetings, technology training, and retooling curriculum and instruction for a variety of scenarios
have been their norm. Like most in our Eagle County community, they have also been working very hard to protect themselves (and their families) from COVID-19.

Why is it important to mention this? Our teachers are asking me these questions: Will our students and their families share our same health/safety values and guidelines? Can you provide me some level of assurance that when I leave school after having taught all day that my family, friends and I will also be safe?

Our teachers want to know that their VCHS Saints are also doing their part to protect themselves (along with their families and community) from COVID-19. As we are now 2 weeks away from the start, it’s more important than ever that our VCHS community rallies around Eagle County’s 5 Commitments of Containment . We are preparing our own VCHS Health Pledge that we will ask all students, faculty, and staff to sign and follow. Our in-person and on-campus success hinges on everyone’s personal commitment to high standards of health and safety that will protect others in our school and local community.

Warm Regards,

Steve O’Neil

RUSTIC FARM TO FORK
BRAVOS
It's been great to finally get back to
in-person instruction. Though it is a college-style summer school class,
on a subject few students are normally immediately interested in, the group seems happy to be together, and is working very hard. Though we are masked and "sanitized" as best as
we can be during all indoor instruction and activities, we safely take a handful
of "mask breaks" outside each hour, and are always doing our best to
keep a healthy balance between
taking precautions seriously and having laughs whenever necessary. The group is doing an excellent job overall of following all COVID-relevant procedures in our classroom. Four weeks down, two to go for Summer Geometry!

Are you interested in ESports Club? We compete against other schools! Practice is once or twice a week until the regular season starts. We will compete once a week until January playoffs. If interested, please contact JC Moritz [email protected] .
