Legislative Update from Senator Ned Claxton
Dear friend,

Just like that, the 2020 legislative session has begun! Our first day was Wednesday, Jan. 8, and we quickly jumped back in. I was glad to return to Augusta; after all, I ran for office to get things done for the people of Maine.

I'm proud to look back at our successes from last year. Whether it was passing our suite of bills to lower the cost of medication, expanding the homestead exemption to lower property taxes, or increasing education funding, all without raising taxes, it's clear we made significant progress on many critical issues. There's more to be done, however, and I'm eager to get back to work.

Read on to learn more about a new bill I'm introducing this session to further address health care-related costs, a recent spaghetti dinner fundraiser in Auburn, and a great opportunity for students at the State House!

As always, you can get in touch by emailing me at [email protected], or by calling my office at (207) 287-1515.

Sincerely,

I was pleased to be back at my desk in the Senate Chamber!
Read my latest column!
In this month's Twin City Times column, I recapped some of the work we did last year in addressing the high cost of prescription medication, and talked about a new bill I'm introducing this year to further reduce some of the costs associated with health care in Maine.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit Barbara Hinckley
You might remember reading about Barbara Hinckley's unofortunate story in the newspaper a couple months back. She fell victim to a months-long operation that scammed her out of her life savings. Thankfully, the greater Auburn community stepped up to help.

Thanks to a spaghetti dinner organized by former Gov. John Baldacci, folks from all over came together to donate money to help Ms. Hinckley rebuild her savings. The event was a success, even being attended by Gov. Janet Mills, and a good time was had by all. I was glad to be the re to help serve up some food!

A great opportunity for Maine students
With the Senate back in session, our Honorary Page program is in full swing. The program gives students a great opportunity to learn about Maine's legislative process by working in the Senate Chamber! As Honorary Pages, students deliver messages, distribute documents within the Chamber, interact with the senators, and take part in a legislative session in real-time. For more information on the program, please contact my office at (207) 287-1515. It is always an honor to host local students at the State House.
