Back in Balance

The Back in Balance program encourages Clubs and Districts that have dropped below their October 1st membership numbers to replace lost Optimists and thereby get Back in Balance. Over the course of April, May, and June, we have tracked the incredible efforts of our community to reverse these trends and grow our rosters. Each of the successful Clubs listed below will receive a digital badge to post on their socials or website.

Thank you to each of the Clubs and Districts that have worked so hard to add members. To everyone who did not get back to the break-even point, do not despair, as we will be publishing results every month until the end of the year. Remember—the Optimist International Growth Committee is here to help any Club or District with information or resources to aid in your growth plan. You can do it! Be the change.

April 2026 Recognition

We began April with 546 clubs that had fewer members than they started with this Optimist Year. During the month, 434 Clubs had no change in their numbers, 57 Clubs lost a few more, and congratulations are in order for the 25 Clubs that attained an April 30th balance of Net Zero or more members.

Additionally, out of the 36 Districts that began April with fewer members than they had at the start of the Optimist Year, the Illinois District got Back in Balance and reached a Net +2 for the year to date. Three Districts maintained their membership level, 17 lost ground, and 15 gained members but not enough to reach balance.

May 2026 Recognition

We began the month of May with 560 clubs that had fewer members than they started with this Optimist Year. Congratulations to the 10 Clubs that attained a May 31st balance of Net Zero or more members. There were 465 Clubs that had no change in their numbers and 47 Clubs that lost a few more.

At the District level, we saw two Districts get Back in Balance: Louisiana added 14 new members to move from -7 to a Net +7, and Wisconsin North Upper Michigan went from Net -1 to Net +4 by adding five members.

June 2026 Recognition

We began the month of June with 585 clubs that had fewer members than they started with this Optimist Year. Congratulations to the 13 Clubs that attained a June 30th balance of Net Zero or more members, increasing their rosters by a combined total of 25 net new members in just one month. There were 486 Clubs that had no change in their numbers and 56 Clubs that lost a few more.

While no Districts got Back in Balance during June, ten Districts successfully added members to get closer to that target. By the end of June, 11 Districts are in a positive membership position relative to October 1st, and 13 Districts are down by 25 or fewer members.

Looking Ahead

To put our overall membership position in perspective for the summer campaigns: as of the end of June, we have 424 Net- Clubs that are short five or fewer members. Out of that number, 209 clubs are only down one member. Imagine that—sign up one new member this summer and be Back in Balance!
