Mayor Provides Update to Chamber Board of Directors
Board members are vital during a chamber, community, or world-wide crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic. During today's virtual Board of Directors meeting, Mayor Hardie Davis Jr. provided updates on the city and discussed the following topics:
  • Unemployment stats
  • PPP and business aid
  • City financial update
  • Mask mandate

Mayor Davis encourages everyone in our community to "Help Stop the Spread by three W’s: Wear a mask, Wash your hands and Watch your surroundings - remain 6 feet apart."

Please refer to the two websites below for daily status reports, testing information and risk levels for each county.

Parents Feel Their Current Childcare Arrangement is Unsustainable
report  released today by the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Center for Education and Workforce revealed that the majority of parents feel their provisional childcare arrangement is unsustainable. More than one in five are unsure whether they will fully return to work.

The report examines how working parents of children under the age of six are navigating childcare during the coronavirus pandemic and is the first in a series of polls that will survey working parents and employers into the fall.

Key takeaways:  COVID-19 has altered the work environment of nearly 90% of working parents and caused two-thirds to adjust their childcare arrangements. Sixty percent of working parents say they will need to change their arrangement within the year, and 35% will need to change within the next three months.
Augusta’s Unemployment Rate Drops in June
Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta’s unemployment rate decreased in June.

Due to the effects of COVID-19, all MSAs continue to see stinted yearly growth, yet monthly gains in nearly all major sectors are beginning to spike.

“June continued to show positive growth across all MSAs,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “We saw almost all major indicators head in the right direction but continue to work to support Georgia businesses and get Georgians back to work.”
