Augusta’s Unemployment Rate Drops in September
Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta saw its unemployment rate drop in September.

Augusta also saw monthly decreases in its labor force and number of employed residents for September.

“Although we saw some negative metrics in certain MSAs, a majority of the areas saw increases in jobs, employed residents, and labor force,” said Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. “We really need to push the tens of thousands of jobs that we have on our online job listing page EmployGeorgia.com. The more we fill these jobs the more our state can regulate and show positive numbers throughout all MSAs.”

In Augusta, the unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points in September, reaching 5.1 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.1 percent.
Be an Informed Voter for Public Education
The Augusta Metro Chamber is encouraging voters to support the continuation of the current Augusta-Richmond County penny sales tax dedicated to education. Proceeds from this tax extension will go towards the expansions and renovations of 4 schools including Richmond Academy, 2 new K-5 schools to meet increased student population and significant resources allocated for the technology needs of students.

Additionally, voters in districts 1, 3, 4, 8 and 10 will be choosing among many candidates for the Richmond County Board of Education. As a service to members, the Chamber has compiled answers from many of the candidates on a variety of issues as part of their platforms. To view the candidate responses, click on the link below.
