Jenna White Talks Transparency
What we all need to know about transparent supply chains
| |
Gary Roskin
Roskin Gem News Report
As announced earlier this year, a joint venture between AGTA, the American Gem Trade Association, and CSM, the Colorado School of Mines, is to research how to improve the transparency in the cultures of the colored gemstone supply chain, to add transparency to an otherwise opaque process.
The goals are as follows:
- To clearly illustrate best practices among colored gemstone suppliers using qualitative case studies.
- To clearly identify factors that are within the miners/suppliers’ control.
- To clearly identify external factors (e.g., policies) that create an enabling (or disabling) environment.
- To develop a tailored set of transparency and traceability standards and guidelines for colored stones (apart from those used for diamonds and other goods).

Pakistan’s Gem Industry calls for Promotion
Industry Awaits Government’s Patronage
| |
The Nation
Pakistan News Agency
Pakistan’s gemstone industry needs promotion under the government patronage in a coordinated way. This can not only create a wealth of job opportunities but also help pay off the country’s mounting foreign debt.
Chairman of All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association (APSEA) for rough and unpolished gemstones Minhaj-ud-Din Shah made the remarks in an interview with WealthPK.
He said tactful planning for value addition and marketing of gemstones could fetch a fortune for cash-strapped and indebted Pakistan.
He said APSEA was a major stakeholder in Pakistan playing a vital role in the promotion and development of the gemstone industry.

An Island Made of Gemstones? | |
SciShow Rocks Box, hosted by Savannah Geary, a graduate from the University of Miami’s Master of Arts in Environment, Culture and Media, presents a fun educational video science short on the Isle of Zabargad - the land of Peridot.
Do you say 'per-ǝ-doe' or 'per-ǝ-dot'?
“Zabargad Island in the Red Sea is so crusted with peridot that it’s fair to say the place is literally made of it.”

The auction market had an incredibly busy week in Geneva, and it was a bit of a rocky road for Sotheby's. While the big tourmaline went missing, Kashmir sapphires were definitely in the house - and did very well for the house!
In other news, Jenna White's presentation surely raised eyebrows as she basically told those who tout charity and cause marketing they need to think again. It's still too soon to bail out of their business model just yet. Who knows, it may just need a little tweaking.
And last but certainly not least, if you have already seen our Spectrum and Cutting Edge report, look again! We have added dozens more images for you to ogle!
Thank you all for your continued support!
As always, stay informed and keep in touch. I'd like to know where you've been and what gems you've seen.
