This Sunday’s Gospel Luke 14:25-33

Christian Education begins this Sunday
The 2019-2020 Christian Ed year kicks off this Sunday! Children’s Chapel will be offered at 8:45 a.m. in the chapel and 11:00 a.m. in Room 7, where we’ll be reading the day’s Scriptures, singing praise to God, and learning about our Church together. At 10:00 a.m. you can also join us as we begin exploring the lives of the saints of God in The Upper Room (Room 6). If you have any questions about Children’s Chapel or The Upper Room please reach out to Aaron Davis at 804-359-5628 ext. 15; he’d love to hear from you.

Remember, our service schedule changes to three convenient times on Sept. 8: 7:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with the “Best Breakfast in Richmond” at 9:30 a.m. plus an opportunity to meet and greet our new Interim Rector, Bill Queen, at 10:00 a.m. in the Adult Classroom. Welcome back to church!
Make a Joyful Noise: Choir Practice Begins Sept. 5
Do you like to sing? If so, contact Beth Davis...all voices welcome! Our Adult Choir practices weekly on Thursday evenings beginning Sept.5; the Amazing Grace Choir and the Youth Choir begin practice on Sunday, Sept. 8. Joining a choir can be a fun way to get involved at church and meet new people who share a passion for music.

Interim Events Begin Sunday, Sept. 22
An important part of our interim journey together will involve a series of interim activities. These will help you understand the parish and your fellow parishioners better, provide information to the Search Committee and to your future Rector, and present experiential activities to tap into your passions and creativity.  Our topics will be: Heritage, Mission & Values, Leadership, Connections, and the Future.
It is important for you to try to attend all of them, as each topic will build upon the previous ones and will prepare the way for the ones to follow. The events will be held every other Sunday, starting September 22. An abbreviated worship service will be held in the Parish Hall beginning at 8:45 a.m., followed by a pick-up breakfast at 9:15 a.m. Events will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 10:45 a.m. The 7:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services will happen as usual.
All parishioners are invited and encouraged to participate in all five of these events. Please make every effort to join in this exciting time of discovery. Questions? Contact Bill Queen.
Lunch Every Wed. at noon for VCU students
Please welcome our VCU students who visit us through the week and on Sundays for worship. If you’d like to provide a meal for 5-10 students, contact The Rev. Kim Reinholz. Meals have been planned for this semester so just click the logo to sign up!

Updates: Outreach Grants Distributed, Narcan Training Held
The 2019 Community Outreach Grants have been disbursed to A.C.T.S., Daily Planet, CrossOver Ministries, The MICAH Initiative, World Pediatric Project, The Shepherd Center, and FeedMore. Questions? Contact Mother Kim .
From a participant at the August 30 training: “The Narcan training was informative and eye opening. I now have the knowledge and tools to help someone, should they need it. And even if I never need to administer Narcan, I’m grateful I learned more about the opioid epidemic that is real in our country.”
Have We Met? Please Wear Your Nametag
As we welcome our new Interim Rector and the church continues to change and grow, connecting names and faces can be challenging. Please take a moment to retrieve (and wear) your nametag as you enter the building on Sunday morning (or through the week). Do you need a new nametag? Contact Barbara Hobson-Simpson in the church office to request one or call 804.359.5628.

Sign the Prayer Book/Hymnal for Sarah Kye Price
As our wonderful Sarah Kye Price officially moves on to her new tri-part endeavors, we want everyone to have a chance to sign the combination prayer book and hymnal we presented to her on August 25th. Here's what you do. Think of a favorite prayer or hymn, and sign your name next to it (with a VERY brief note to Sarah if you must). The book will be set up on the wooden podium at the back of the sanctuary during all three services on Sunday for the month of September. Mary Lietman will have it available during choir practice on Thursdays during September. Thanks to Mary Lietman for managing this lovely good-bye for Sarah!
Richmond Public Schools needs you! Volunteer one hour every other week as an academic mentor, lunch buddy or classroom helper for Kindergarten and First Grade students at Bellevue Elementary School. Learn more about GHTC’s participation in the Micah program that provides training and workshops for volunteers in the public schools. Want to know more? Do You Have a Will?
If you have put your estate planning on the back burner, you’re not alone...come to Heaven, Hell & Hollywood on Sept. 15, 29 & Oct. 13 to learn more about estate plan administration, Christian burial rites and leaving a legacy.
