The Caring Place 101:
Back to School
Dear Friend,

With school back in session, The Caring Place thinks it's a great time to follow their lead and do a little teaching! This issue of Another Month of Caring is dedicated to all of the flyers and information that we put out in the community. We know between our two thrift stores, Donations hours, Food Programs, and Crisis Assistance, there's a lot to navigate. We try to highlight changes and updates in our monthly newsletter, but sometimes you just want all the current information at once, so here it is in our "Back to School" edition of Another Month of Caring!

Here are the highlights you'll want to note in this newsletter:

  • Donation drive-through hours change on September 6th;
  • The furniture pick-up area has expanded;
  • We are hiring;
  • We have Food Programs & Crisis Assistance available for neighbors in need;
  • We will spotlight more volunteer stories this month;
  • All locations of The Caring Place are closed for Labor Day;
  • And there are MANY ways to help if you can!

One of my favorite ways for you to help is to share information about The Caring Place with everyone in our community! This latest newsletter can help you do that! Whether you have a neighbor who might need a helping hand or a neighbor that loves to shop, chances are this newsletter has the info they need. Not only are we sharing great info in this newsletter, but also resources to download. This issue is for forwarding, sharing links on social media, and printing flyers you download!

However you choose to engage with us, thank you!

Welcome to Fall,

Jill Nalley, Communications Manager

With the holidays on the horizon, we invite you to start thinking about how you'd like to give during the 2022 giving season. Historically, The Caring Place has encouraged Food Drives, and this year is no different! Food Drives for TCP are the easiest you will ever do! No truck or heavy lifting needed! Simply check out our "Little Blue Barrell" and pass it around while collecting all the green (cash or checks) you can! Due to efficiency, food costs and staffing, our Food Pantry only accepts monetary gifts. Media & Blog: Meet Kim

We don't normally do Volunteer interviews in a home, but that's what it felt like today. Kim and I found a cozy corner in our Second Helping thrift store and began our interview amongst a cornucopia of decor and collectibles. We settled into the...

Meet Therese

Thérèse Verdonk-Vertruyen is another one of our volunteers. She's known for being generous with her time. She regularly helps our Donations team no matter the weather. She's pictured here with Team Member Brandon Mading while working outdoors in August! You could find her out in the warehouse all summer long! She and her husband, Carlos Verdonk, are also known for their financial generosity to The Caring Place. In an effort to be more energy efficient throughout our buildings, The Caring Place hoped for automatic doors that provided a better barrier between our indoor and outdoor space. Our old, floppy and cumbersome doors were not cutting it. Therese and Carlos made that dream a reality. We now have three sets of energy-efficient, motion-sensor doors to help us reduce our energy costs while also providing safe, automatic passageways as we move items in and out of our warehouse. You've probably seen these beautiful new doors as you've shopped at The Shops at The Caring Place. Our staff and volunteers love gliding right through when their hands are full. Thank you Carlos and Therese for filling this need!
